The Masters of the Universe made a movie celebrating old fashioned John Wayne masculinity, and forgot to tell everyone.
The problem is, they were making a movie aimed at 30 year olds, which meant it was perfect for 12 year olds, but the people who are nostalgic for He-Man are 50 years old. But 50 year olds hold "toxic values" so they made sure to tell them they weren't welcome. So even though the film celebrated the exact toxic values that 50 year olds hold, a lot of them stayed away too.
A film for kids that no kid cares about, whose production team hate marketed to 30 year olds by bashing the true audience. It's a wonder the film did as well as it did.
It's fun, though. And everyone in it looks like they're having a great time. There's bathos, but there's never bathos in moments of true sentiment. Alison Brie's eyes are probably the stand out.
I want to see Nicholas Galitzine in more stuff.

I have seen the new #MastersOfTheUniverse film. I had no hope for this film… but I have to admit this is one hell of a fun movie. This is the #FlashGordon sequel you have been waiting for since 1980! With all the “stupid” material they really managed to get so many things right! Go and watch it! One of the best fun films of the last few years! 👍
