@KosmiderLeon @cat_kimber @HaydenMcRobbie and important finding not in abstract (we were told to take it out) - our simulation suggests switching to lower nic liquid results in 2-fold increase in cancer risk. Thanks @CR_UK for funding.

@HelenPParker It was a great meeting. Roll on outcomes as opposed to outputs

I was wondering @HaydenMcRobbie when did the @OttawaModel invite and confirm you as a speaker for their #OMSC2020 conference? It’s seems that you are last minute addition. (A good and need one may I add)

A study led by Professor Peter Hajek from Queen Mary suggesting e-cigarettes are more effective than nicotine replacement therapy in supporting smokers to quit is one of the year’s most talked about research papers. bit.ly/2sxNgsw

@JonathanFoulds I’d agree - it’s worth a shot. I’d also support him to make the switch (follow-up) and encourage him to stop smoking combustible cigarettes as soon as he can

Updated review on mobile phone interventions for smoking cessation. Support delivered via text messages is still an effective way of helping people quit smoking. cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10… @rawegd @DrChrisBullen @rosiedobson2

Our new time series paper published in @AddictionJrnl found that in 2017 around 50,700 to 69,930 smokers had stopped as a consequence of e-cigarettes who would otherwise have carried on smoking onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ad…

@Alan_Beard1 @BoatingFuzzy @LindaBauld @nwalker25021458 @DrChrisBullen Yes, this kind of support is important and clearly helpful for people transitioning from smoking
English

@BoatingFuzzy @HaydenMcRobbie @LindaBauld @nwalker25021458 @DrChrisBullen Before I switched for maybe 2 weeks I read virtually every thread on the 2-3 Vaping forums I'd joined, asking questions, getting great advice(vapers always keen to pass on good info). Once switched, continued using forums for a good few months..prolly 50% of the reason for success.

And another RCT showing that vaping can help people who smoke to quit. The evidence continues to grow.

@robertjwest Minimal behavioural support is a key factor I think. Results are not hugely different to those seen in the @DrChrisBullen 2013 study, which also offered minimal support.
English

But success rates look very low. What might be the reasons?

English

@Alan_Beard1 @LindaBauld @nwalker25021458 @DrChrisBullen Absolute quit rates are lower than the Hajek RCT, most likely reflecting limited behavioural support.
English

@HaydenMcRobbie @LindaBauld Pleasing, can yourself or @nwalker25021458 , @DrChrisBullen draw comparisons to the earlier Hajek RCT I would have expected your outcome to have resulted in similar or higher quits ....or am I missing the obvious?
