I dislike Americans who move abroad and then just curse the country everyday even as they live on the benefits of their American status.
America takes in these people, many from an immigrant bloodline, gives them more prosperity than anyone in their cursed bloodline created in their entire hundreds of thousands of years on this planet,
And yet they still act as ingrates to the country that enables their lifestyle.
They sit in Bali or Da Nang or even Singapore and just ruthlessly cheer on the country to fail or sink when it uplifted them from their third world cursed upbringing to what they are now.
They act as relentless cheerleaders for China or India or god knows whateverstan, when none of those countries did shit for them.
It’s like Vito Corleone in that one scene in The Godfather, “you didn’t even care to call me Godfather”.

Austin TX is now back to pre-pandemic apartment rents. Down 21% from peak in summer of 2022. $1,636/month --> $1,288/month (I'm now even seeing 2BRs in some apartments at sub-$1,000) This rental correction is due to a sharp drop in migration/demand, combined with a surge of new apartment development. At this point, Austin has its cheapest rents on record relative to income.

Colonization, 95 times out of 100, was a massive boondoggle, a black hole into which industrial riches were cast and never seen again. Some individuals, families, and firms made profits. There were some strategic benefits. Prestige, ofc. But colonies don’t make a nation wealthy.

This is generally 100% correct & any immigrant knows it. “Maryam? Oh yeah, she married an American guy.” My parents are happy to be here & they hang up the American flag everywhere blablabla but we all tacitly understand an American to be a white person. It doesn’t even need to be said & it’s never questioned. Black Americans are seen as a seperate nation (@arctotherium42 articulates this) & Mexicans are just… Mexicans who are here, like us. Chinese are Chinese. Arabs are Arabs.

Sad! Looks like Vietnam’s timeline was too aggressive and so the Japanese are out.
Siemens IIRC also pulled out of their high speed rail project.
