A lot of things are being put under the "deployment issue" umbrella, and it's unsurprising that not everyone understands how complicated the power demand rules are. This isn't an "issue" in the usual sense of the word, but rather oddities in the regulations being exposed by the near 50/50 power split. Sometimes, the way the driver uses the throttle pedal induces "deployment issues." We already saw what happened when a moment that usually proves inconsequential ruined Leclerc's SQ3 lap in China. In this case, Hadjar, who is lifting through 130R to manage tyres, is affected by the quirks of the power demand rules. The MGU-K must give at least 200 kW of electrical power for 1 second when he goes from lifting to beyond 98% throttle. Throttle position >98% is defined as the power-limited pending period. What accentuates the issues for Isack here, is that from 130R to Casio Triangle - where cars typically harvest when not attacking - instead of recovering energy, it spends an extra couple seconds deploying it. He is left completely exposed on the subsequent straight because it used energy when it was supposed to recover it. It's easy to fix in this case. Don't lift on the next laps. Where it becomes tricky is when the driver uses the throttle in a way that doesn't necessarily help the "issue" due to their driving habits, or trying to push a little harder at some points. It's precisely this thats frustrating so many drivers. Because they don't really know they're doing something "wrong." The reason its become such a prominent aspect is because of the need to have 100% optimal deployment all the time, the product of a 50/50 power split.

@lightningkeys @brakeboosted @WafflinWheel Yep lol… idk why they can’t return to the same way the older cars used to deploy? Or I wonder if they can’t because of the 50/50 split. Just seems crazy to me that a driver can’t push the car to the limit because it’ll actually be slower overall

How to larp in F1: Post Alonso winning ONLY Say 2012 had the best grid 🥶 Be homophobic towards Lando Norris Remember to say Alonso is the GOAT "Back when..." "The good days..." (4 overtakes in one race) No posting Hamilton brilliance, only white drivers. We're larping "2012"

Funny how Hamilton doesn’t get called out for “not attacking” in the first stint but then his fans are furious that Charles “didn’t attack” in the second stint

@f1_bunnny @FormulaPace Possibly pushed too hard in the second stint at the start. Possibly why he was pushing harder due to the battery issues? Will have to wait and see until data accounts talk about it

@FormulaPace Did you spot the supposed battery issues in telemetry? Seems more like he had more deg than deployment deficit to Charles

I think it’s worth noting that when Lewis found himself far behind Charles in 2025, it was most often coupled with having to battle slower cars. This time it feels different - despite being coming off a worse weekend he still found himself punching above his weight and taking it to faster McLarens and Mercedes. Maybe it’s field spread but we just didn’t see that level of confidence in his driving last year. To me it just points to Leclerc’s exceptional performance in Suzuka, rather than Lewis doing anything wrong this weekend tbh

I should have placed a Kalshi bet on this kind of post appearing. 💵 Let’s not lose the plot, here. Leclerc was on 5 lap older tyres, in a slower car than Mercedes and McLaren… but somehow he had sustainable pace to beat them both and was simply holding back? He just had a bit more pace than Lewis this weekend, as Lewis had a bit more in China. the order was only inverted through the SC. The SC pushing George backwards, and having a quirky deployment issue, is the only way things finished as they did with Leclerc in front of George. Without the SC, it’s likely a Mercedes 1-2, Leclerc fighting Piastri for P3/P4, and Lewis and Norris fighting each other for P5/P6. I understand being frustrated, but if anything be frustrated that the Ferrari PU is not up to par. In Suzuka, the outcome reverted to what the pace of the cars was today, except the mixup at the front courtesy the SC.

Leclerc holding back on George so he can wait to attack Lewis again 😂
