@carltonreid Not surprised, but still sad. Especially as I have seen a number of vehicles driving over the pavement to get around parked cars on residential streets in the last few months - even right in front of parents walking kids to school, with buggies, etc. Getting worse, not better!

Word on the (parking-choked) street is that UKGOV has shelved plans to legislate against pavement parking by motorists. DfT has been withholding the results of a consultation on this for almost four years.

Electric car clubs are being trialled at public charging hubs in towns and villages across Oxfordshire. @HBudnitz has won funding from the Public Policy Challenge Fund to see what answers these trials offer. tsu.ox.ac.uk/news/sharing-k…

Autobesity, including in EVs, also uses far more scarce resources, from manufacturing through to energy use and public space. Modifying parking space for them won't help. theguardian.com/business/2023/…

In fact, all of the substantive work exploring the effects of LTNs concludes that they do deliver the benefits they’re designed to, and don’t do any of things opponents accuse them of doing. Here is our final briefing summarising the evidence base: wearepossible.org/LTN-briefing2

@luton_paul I'm sure they do. I was more thinking about the business model for the buggies. Are they being introduced in outer London, suburban areas too?

@HBudnitz Surely the London figures will include suburbs as well as the dense inner London.

@HBudnitz You wouldn’t want to ride one on a trunk road and motorways are forbidden, but I reckon a suburbs to local town centres model would work

And car club fleets have a higher proportion of EVs than the national fleet- or in other words % of private cars on UK roads which are electric.
Jillian Anable@jillian_anable

@MorrisJonathan @DrSimEvans Not really. Evidence shows that when people give up a car and swap to ‘pay as you go’ car sharing or occasional hire or taxis, they are much more discerning about what they use a car for and use it less.

Glad to see this. It is worth adding that the individuals and fleet managers who purchase / lease EVs for about 3 years help grow the second hand market, making EVs more affordable for the many who cannot afford a new car, no matter the engine type. theguardian.com/environment/20…
