“I shared the pain with you. I know what it takes to reform this economy that was in tatters. If you lost sleep, I lost some, too. If you have lost weight, I think I have lost some too.” — President Tinubu

Abuja weather this Monday afternoon looks exactly like the opening scene of a rapture movie Dark clouds everywhere, sudden rain, everywhere just quiet and scary. At this point, everybody should check their timetable and make sure today is not their appointed date

Senegal is reportedly battling public debt estimated at about 135% of GDP, heavy petrol subsidy burdens, rising domestic debt, and increasing IMF pressure on its economy. Meanwhile, Nigeria under President Tinubu has fully repaid its IMF debt obligations while simultaneously pushing major infrastructure projects across the country. This is why difficult economic reforms matter. You can not continue subsidizing consumption endlessly while debt keeps piling up. Eventually, economic reality catches up.

ADC has not even entered the main election yet, and there is already confusion everywhere. One result sheet says Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour came third. Another camp says he won. Supporters are fighting online, while party officials can not clearly communicate the actual outcome of a simple governorship primary. These are the same people asking Nigerians to trust them with governing a country of over 200 million people. If a shadow primary in one state already ends in controversy, conflicting results, and social media chaos, how exactly do they plan to manage Nigeria? At this point, every stage of the electoral process seems herculean for the ADC to handle.

UPDATE : Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress governorship primaries in Lagos State. His victory positions him as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the upcoming election.

Borrowing is not unique to Nigeria. Every major economy in the world borrows. The United States owes over $34 trillion. China borrows massively for infrastructure. Even the UK and Japan run on debt financing. The issue is not borrowing. The issue is what the money is used for. Nigeria’s recent borrowing has gone into roads, rail, power, agriculture, and infrastructure projects that were neglected for decades. Projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, rail expansion, and power transmission upgrades are capital-intensive projects no government can fund from revenue alone. In 2024 alone, Nigeria spent over ₦8 trillion on capital projects aimed at long-term economic growth. No country develops by sitting still. Infrastructure costs money. Growth costs money. Development costs money. When the projects begin to improve transportation, electricity, jobs, and business activity, then the economy grows, and the borrowing begins to make sense.

Rotus of the Arise TV broke the hearts of the haters. The overshot debt profile of the nation has been the hit line on the lips of evil wishers. Rotus intellectually put the Nigerian debt profile in perspective: - The naira devaluation blew up the debt in dollar status. - Nigeria is in a safe net with borrowing. - South Africa and Egypt are three times more indebted than Nigeria on dollars status. - Nigeria has been steady in debt servicing unlike Ghana, Zimbabwe, and several other African nations. - Nigeria is not on IMF debt list President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is intentional in courage and economic rebuildingpursuit.
