We started in the Dutch East Indies (modern Indonesia) in early 1600 and ruled the archipelago as merchants and traders for 350 years but never left a culture in our colonies like the British, Spanish or Portuguese. Bessent's point is straightforward: which scenario gives Russia more money? Oil at $150 a barrel with Russia capturing 70% — that's $105 per barrel. Or oil below $100 with the broader market now able to buy, driving prices down and Russian revenues with them? The administration's own analysis puts the maximum additional revenue Russia could receive at two billion dollars — one day of the Russian Federation's budget. Welker kept pushing.
