remember that bombshell documentary about the sexual assault allegations against Michael Jackson? You’d better, because it’s effectively gone for good, replaced by a truncated sequel that chronicles the influence of a movie you can no longer see. slate.com/culture/2025/0…

@XRPArmyNews1 @KanoleeKitty I mean, jack of all trades? I just want anyone who searches here for atheist AA to get a result showing how to find non-religious AA meetings. For free. So, jack of zero trades here, trying to spread awareness of secular AA because that would have helped me 6 years ago

Love how expressing ones opinion gets so twisted on social media, and always by charmers with underhanded motives. The principles we learn through AA are next to impossible on SM where people are here for so many personal financial ventures but in #RecoveryPosse #Honesty

@nynie96 @thesoberheathen That wasn’t me! This is just a small anonymous account in case atheists do a search about atheist/secular AA, to point them to meeting info. I have done no sobriety podcasts but will check yours out as a listener!

@mirihawk @1bravewave @annehelen Right. Group prayer in pretty much all traditional AA meetings (in the U.S. anyway) equals religion. So I’m just using this thread to mention secular AA meetings repeatedly - it is possible to get sober in AA without religion, and make atheist friends of all ages as a bonus.

What's an organization that isn't religious or through your kid's school that has allowed you to build connections, however loose, with people who aren't your own age?

@karolgajda @annehelen Yes, traditional AA and their 12 steps are religious. But secular AA exists - alcoholic atheists, please Google secular AA meetings! They have god-free steps. Steps and a higher power are optional, just get sober. And niche answers are okay I think.

@meags @annehelen Many deny it but yes. Most traditional AA meetings have group prayer and are therefore religious even if the focus is sobriety. But, there are secular/non-religious meetings, which is where I have made close friends aged 25-80 the past few years. So my answer is secular AA.

@MelbourneAa I only go to secular AA meetings so I don’t hear any god talk. There are plenty of secular meetings but virtually all of the anniversary coins still say god on the back, it’s frustrating. The coins with the responsibility pledge on the back are hard to find and expensive.

@HeathenSober There's a lot of Christian/deist stuff around AA and a lot of bad apologetics. The good thing is, if you're an alchie, you can stay sober, get help and have a much better life and just let that stuff go through to the keeper* #soberlife #recovery

Two years of whining about how the AA coins all say god on them have yielded results! The secretary of my home group found a secular 3 year coin for me!

@ToeBurgundy @atheist_bad You can do the secular parts without the religious parts. You have committed to yourself by admitting your addiction to alcohol. The steps next needed to be taken are going to be tough. Ask for your AA buddy to be an atheists from the group you join.

@ToeBurgundy You can be an Atheist in AA. Your higher power can be anything you want it to be. Whatever gives you peace and strength. It’s a great place to get a support system. Take what you need and leave the rest. Don’t box yourself into a corner.

@deepwithfuture @ToeBurgundy There are also secular/non-religious AA meetings - no prayers, and the steps, a sponsor, and a higher power are all optional. Not much talk about the program in meetings. There’s a spreadsheet of secular AA zoom meetings linked at omagod.org

@ToeBurgundy I'm sorry to keep talking at you. It's just really important for you to know. I don't believe in a creator and it's been immensely helpful to me. There's so much knowledge in the rooms.
