Como’s men’s team has done incredible this season in the Serie A, and qualified for Europe.
But don’t forget, Como’s women’s team also had an incredible season and won the Serie B Femminile. 👏🏾
USWNT legend Heather O'Reilly is head of women's football for Como.
“Listen, this was something I was not expecting to come into my life,” she told U.S. Soccer podcast.
“This was a little bit random, I was doing various things like some television work and some coaching, and I really sort of was enjoying both of those avenues, but I didn't know what exactly or where exactly I wanted to put my energies fully.
“And then the TST tournament, I came in contact with these people from Como because they were in our group play the first year of TST.
“We were both out of the tournament. So me just being friendly and trying to be a nice host, because I live in North Carolina, I thought it was a nice thing to do.
“I was like, let's have a bit of a party after our game together, right? Like, let's get the apple spritz. We'll order some pizza.
“We had a wonderful little pasta party after the game, and not like I got the job the next day, but I think that they kept me in mind as somebody, as they were growing their women's side of their club.
“So about a year after the infamous pasta party, they offered me the position to sort of head up their women's department, meaning they had a team, but it was like, recreational point, and they knew that I wanted to live in the States.
“Like I said, I have a young family. My husband, Dave, is trying to start a business, and so it wasn't the time for us to completely move to Europe. And I was very clear on that.
“But they said that's fine. Do it remotely. This is more of an advisor role, and come over as much as you can. And so for the last two years, I have been going over to Italy about once a month for about four or five days at a time.
“We were in the fourth division. And so I had to find some staff and some players to try to win fourth division.
“Then we moved up to Serie B, which is obviously the second division, and only one team playing gets promoted.
“And so I put together an excellent staff, and that excellent staff helped me find some players that were ready to roll up their sleeves and face this wonderful challenge of trying to win Serie B, right?
“And we just sealed the league. We won Serie B. We are promoted to Serie A. It was huge with three games to go. So we convincingly won the league.”
What a job O’Reilly is doing in Italy 🙌🏾
