@LowBudgetFonzy @AuthorTOBurnett Details, details, right? I spent several years researching the backstory and supporting facts for the world I created—anything the story touched was documented. That work helped reveal subplots, character motivations, etc.

Now, you see, I'm a man of details. For me, I'll get derailed if I don't have everything though out! I can't just have someone escape by escaping. Things happen for a reason and if someone is trying to trap you, you need to understand (at least I do) how both of their minds work so you can figure out how the hero breaks out so it doesn't feel cheap, because the HOW of a situation will also often come up later. I try to plan things out, or talk to people to get another angle on a scene, or simply take a night and then think over the scene at work and write down the ideas on a paper towel.

@AuthorTOBurnett Excellent method. I'd do something like this when I was writing scripts, blogs and white papers for clients.

@jodyjsperling It depends on how long it took to reach 20K and the offer. For example, hitting 20K in less than a year for self-pub means you're doing something right. I'd reinvest in more promotions and keep pushing.
