@MadameMasse As part of Languages Fortnight, Y7 parents/carers are invited in to participate in a lesson after school with their child and experience how languages are taught here at Hebburn Comprehensive. It's always lots of fun and very interesting!

A great turnout for our second annual Parents Into Languages event! Our Y7 students and their parents/carers have been learning how to order in a restaurant in Spanish!

How impressive! Mbappé speaking confidently in Spanish and describing how he learnt it in school. WORK HARD on languages at Hebburn, BE KIND - mistakes are part of the process, ASPIRE - playing for Real Madrid was Mbappé's goal, learning Spanish was part of the process.

Final shout out from Mr Chadwick here to head of MFL Mrs Beckford for her hard work organising it all and to our Language Ambassadors, who were absolutely fantastic throughout. The whole thing was great fun and a huge advert for what an interesting place languages make the world!

We were also ready for our Year 9 Spanish Tomatina! We were going to throw red powder paint around, embrace Spanish culture and generally cause a big old mess! Sadly the British weather made that tricky🌪️ - bet they don't have that issue in Spain! We hope to rearrange this soon!

The Y8s also designed and described their own Euros mascots (in a variety of foreign languages of course!) - the entire year group were absolutely brilliant - there were some fantastic designs and some very talented linguists! Massive well done to our winning team!

Next up, we visited @HebburnStOswald with our Language Ambassadors. Once there, the Language Ambassadors, budding teachers every one of them, taught French to some Y4s who then designed their own Euro 2024 mascot. C'etait tellement chouette!

It was a fantastic event with loads of brilliant designs and excellent MFL practice!

Next up we had a Y10 event, also Olympic-themed, where they were tasked with designing a new Olympic outfit for their chosen country, learning to describe it in the chosen language too!

We played national anthems; waved flags; we wore football shirts and traditional clothes; AND we gave out lots of delicious food from the respective countries - the Romanian bread was a particular hit in the staff room!

First off, celebrating the upcoming Paris Olympics AND all the beautiful cultures represented in the Hebburn community, we hosted our own Languages Fortnight Opening Ceremony.

We have had quite the two weeks here at Hebburn Comprehensive! It has been our Languages Fortnight, and it's undoubtedly been the best yet! Here are a few of the things we got up to:
