HOW DO YOU GET SAVED? We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone – and if we would make a list of the steps we need to take to be saved, it would look like this: 1. Admit you’re a sinner 2. Believe Jesus died for your sins and rose again 3. Repent - turn from sin to God 4. Confess Jesus as Lord and Savior (pray sincerely) 5. Receive salvation by faith – it’s a free gift The moment you trust Christ, you are saved. Many say that it is too easy, there must be more to it - that we need to produce something to be saved. Are we really saved, just by saying a prayer once - and then going back to old life we had before? Is it easy to be saved but hard to stay saved - is it a one-time event or a work in progress? There are three important components in the list of steps to get saved; Faith, Grace and Repentance - and they all play an essential part in the process of salvation. What is Faith? We are saved by faith alone, meaning salvation is received through trusting in Jesus Christ, not by earning it through works. However, genuine faith will produce good works as evidence of a transformed life. Faith is active trust and confidence in God and His promises, even when unseen or unproven by human standards. It’s the foundation of a relationship with God, essential for salvation, pleasing Him, and living righteously. Faith is living righteously - walking with Jesus - in our daily life. Faith is not passively sitting in a Church on a Sunday - listening to other people pray and singing old hymns - it’s walking in spirit. What is Grace? We are saved by grace, where grace fundamentally means unmerited favor - God’s freely given kindness, love, and mercy toward humanity, despite human sinfulness and unworthiness. It is not earned by works but bestowed as a gift. The importance thing to realize, is that Jesus paid a debt He did not owe, because you and I owe a debt - we could never pay. Salvation is not something that can be achieved through human effort or by following religious laws perfectly. God offers salvation as a gift of grace, meaning it is unearned and undeserved. What is Repentance? Jesus is very clear that, we need to repent from our sins - to be saved. Repentance is not the same thing as asking God to forgive you for your sins. They are related, but not the same. The Bible treats them as two distinct actions that must both happen for full restoration. If we are truly sorry for our sins, God will forgive us. True Repentance produces a changed behavior - a Spirit-enabled, faith-fueled turning from sin to God that results in forgiveness and new life. Returning to the same sin repeatedly and repeatedly asking God for forgiveness - is not repentance! Turn away for the sin - and be free from it - with the help of the Holy Spirit. Conclusion It all goes together - we can’t skip one part of the three essential ingredients of salvation. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is single, definitive, and once-and-for-all event that atoned for humanity's sins. Because of His sacrifice, we can have peace with God and are no longer subject to His wrath; instead, we are children who are beloved by our heavenly Father. Believing in God is not the same as having Faith in God and trusting Him alone for your salvation. Faith goes beyond intellectual belief into trust, reliance, and commitment, Faith is a commitment to Him and His will. We need to ”pick up our crosses” every day, meaning that we need to follow Jesus every day and obeying His commandments and doing His will. Works are not required for salvation, they are a "symptom" of saving faith. All those who are saved through faith by God's grace, will participate in good works. Works are not required for salvation, we are bought and paid for by the blood or Jesus, by grace and not of ourselves. But we must show compassion and care for those in need, there must be a symptom of our saving faith - love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus isn’t after perfection, but He wants to see a transformed heart and a sincere will to do good works. Jesus looks at the heart, not just external performance. This means Jesus is more interested in your inner motivations and desire to follow Him than in your ability to act perfectly. This means that true repentance is needed for being truly saved! Real change begins when we stop trying to earn God's favor through our own efforts and instead surrender to His plan, allowing the Holy Spirit to work from the inside out. Once saved, the Bible assures us believers of eternal security in God’s love. The Spirit’s presence in our lives, producing fruits like love and peace – is the evidence of salvation.
