Tonight is our last night of fauna trapping at 20 sites within the North West Conservation Alliance on #KangarooIsland - species captured have included the #endangered Southern brown bandicoot. This large unburnt patch of vegetation is critical refugia. #BushfireRecoveryAU

Amazing work on the frontline of extinction by @terrainecology @awconservancy @FAME_Species @HeidiGroffen. One of the only known populations of KI dunnarts to survive the Janurary fires has been protected from feral cats.

The critical refuge for KI dunnarts is now fully fenced and the population within it are now safe from predation by #feralcats, prior to fencing we removed a total of 8 feral cats from this site in the past 6 weeks post fire. Grateful thanks to all of our project partners!

Pleased to say we have detected at least one KI dunnart at a monitoring site established days after the first KI bushfire. This is fantastic news but we must work hard to protect them from predation by feral cats and locate other remnant patches to find more survivors🤞

The scale of the KI bushfire is unfathomable and everyone is very much in shock. There is much concern for the KI dunnart and glossy black cockatoo but it’s too early to make any predictions on how they have fared. We are already looking for remnant patches of unburnt habitat 🤞
