Feeling a bit of a pioneer here. It was something of a revelation to experience Lully's Armide, staged by @Ensemble_OrQ @arcolatheatre, back in 2017.

Opera lives, with French baroque passion in deepest Dalston: the ever-adventurous @arcolatheatre grimeborn festival has a UK premiere of 18th-century opera by Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, inventively staged in a tiny space by Ensemble OrQuesta. Some superbly stylish singing.

@marcio_dasilva @Ensemble_OrQ And we are so privileged to have world class haute-contre @KWhiteTenor @arcolatheatre but the others soloists like @PoppySoprano and those at least doubling roles, all contributing to a superb night of drama. Bravo. Five stars from me. Go, it's a very well connected venue! /End

@marcio_dasilva @Ensemble_OrQ The score kept up a classic French baroque tension throughout as the tragedy played out in recit, solos, ravishing duets, stunning trios (the zephyrs, the guys in red) and choruses (the guys in black) /3

but #CéphaleEtProcris more personal, tragic, intimate than Rameau, more Monteverdi in fact. Hats off to superbly versatile playing/singing @marcio_dasilva @Ensemble_OrQ for producing such a workable and sympathetic score, aptly minimal staging, choreography and lighting /2

What a revelation #CéphaleEtProcris as good as a top Monteverdi opera (and they are very top) critics have written off #ElizabethJacquetDeLaGuerre but the miniscule forces of @Ensemble_OrQ proved them so wrong - better than overrated contemporary Lully, as tuneful as Rameau /1
