A fantastic read! This book follows Billy, 11, who loves jokes and dreams of being a comedian but his stammer is holding him back. Does it have to? It’s funny yet endearing and heartwarming, and deals with bullying, insecurities, friendship, kindness and empathy. @HelenRutterUK

@BarbaraEvaV @PrimarySchoolBC @scholasticuk It started because my first book was inspired by my son and then my publisher wanted me to write more boys. I think boys reading is on the decline and they seem to give up reading at about the age that my books are aimed at, so I really want to try and keep them engaged.

Personally, I appreciate this as I feel boys need a wider range of role models, not stereotypes, and books offer them a direct but also 'private' medium to find themselves. #PrimarySchoolBookClub

@BarbaraEvaV @PrimarySchoolBC @scholasticuk Yeah it was a challenge not to repeat too much in the various strands but keep each one strong enough to stand alone. It was a tricky write that’s for sure!!

@HelenRutterUK @PrimarySchoolBC @scholasticuk I think you've succeeded. I read it a few times to go back and follow different decisions and it never took away from the characters, in fact it changed the 'angles' and kept the possibilities open.
