For 70 odd years Europe has relied on US for its protection. and never paid the full price which was 2% of each countries GDP.
The new enforced 5% of GDP which is agreed upon (Spain did not agree) is a target to be reached in the coming 10 years!
If Europe starts today to build their military it will take them at least 10 years to replace fighter jets, Tanks and other military equipment which is now being purchased from US and the cost per country would be at least 10% of their GDP!
