Human Rights & Democratisation in Africa at @CHR_UP.
On Human Rights day 2025, I am receiving this academic qualification at a critical moment for democracy in Africa — and in Tanzania in particular.
My research examined electoral governance, comparing INEC Tanzania and the EC Ghana, and how stronger institutions can rebuild public trust.
Ready to serve!

As we mark 77 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, let’s remember: human rights aren’t abstract, they are essential for our daily life! We use them every single day.

Our sisters, daughters and mothers continue to face online violence. As we begin the 16 DOA, we are called to act!
Let’s speak up when we see digital abuse, and support survivors to access the help they need including the legal recourse. Together, we can break the silence and end all forms of digital gender-based violence.

“Freedom is not something that one people can bestow… it is claimed, and none can keep it from them.” — Kwame Nkrumah
A reminder that human rights belong to the people, not the powerful.

Today, October 21, 2025, Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) joins fellow human rights stakeholders across Africa in commemorating Africa Human Rights Day by participating in the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) taking place in Banjul, The Gambia.
LHRC’s participation includes delivering a statement on the human rights situation in Tanzania, emphasizing the importance of implementing decisions of regional and national courts, reinstating Article 34(6) of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Establishment of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and strengthening accountability, freedom of expression, and citizens’ participation in democratic governance.
In addition, LHRC will take part in several thematic human rights sessions, including those focusing on the rights of children, women, persons with disabilities, and environmental rights.
LHRC will also present key recommendations for reforming the criminal justice system, highlighting the need to uphold fundamental rights, ensure transparency in case investigations, address arbitrary arrests, safeguard judicial independence, and respond to the growing concern of suspects being denied the right to bail.

Today, as we commemorate African Human Rights Day, we reflect on the principles of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, a reminder of our shared duty to promote justice, equality, and dignity for all.
LHRC continue to amplify the voices of those fighting for human rights, good governance, and the protection of fundamental freedoms across Tanzania and Africa.
However, we strongly urges the Government of #Tanzania 🇹🇿to take urgent action to end the ongoing violations of human rights, including cases of abductions and disappearances of people. Tanzanians deserve assurance of safety, justice, and accountability.
A just and equitable society cannot thrive where fear persists.

ABDUCTIONS — UNTIL WHEN?
Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) is deeply concerned about the continued cases of abductions and disappearances in Tanzania. The recent disappearance of Mr. Humphrey Polepole and others raises serious questions about citizens’ safety and accountability of state institutions.
As a nation, we must stand together and say, no more abductions!
Abductions, until when?
Read LHRC’s full statement and ask yourself , what do you think about this?
