One thing I don't understand is people hating on assists from set pieces. Like an open play assist can be a one-yard pass sideways, where the guy you passed to goes on a mad solo run and scores. Generally, it requires more quality to get an assist from a set piece than from open play.

Now that Michael Carrick is officially the Manchester United manager, can we all agree he’s the best man for the job and the one to take us back to the Glory days

Check all the teams dominating and being successful across Europe 👀 They all combine: - Keeping the ball with discipline in possession - Excellent pressing off the ball - Very fast attacking football in both build up and transitions If Manchester United make Michael Carrick the permanent manager… can he really replicate that?

The funniest thing is that if Ole got the interim job over Carrick, he would have been permanent manager.

🚨 | Before deciding on Michael Carrick to be the head coach, club officials were considering Andoni Iraola and Unai Emery, with background checks being taken on several candidates. [@David_Ornstein] #MUFC

@SuhailChowdhary The same people appointing Carrick are the same people thinking appointing a 343 manager in Amorim was the best way forward for the club.

Ruben Amorim played Bruno Fernandes incorrectly and tried to force Kobbie Mainoo out. Casemiro is saying he could've stayed if Michael Carrick had been appointed earlier. The appointment of Ruben Amorim was the most embarrassing decision in Manchester United's history.

@Peter_Croden Holland? Who, one year ago, was sacked by a Japanese team only months into the job. He was Southgate's assistant for 11 years and didn't win anything with one of the best England teams of all time, while playing boring football.

Barring Holland hardly screams best in class
utdreport@utdreport

Michael Carrick’s backroom staff are expected to stay, with Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans all in line for new deals. Craig Mawson is also set to continue as first-team goalkeeping coach following his promotion after Ruben Amorim’s departure. #mufc also want to add a set-piece coach, with Andreas Georgson, highly rated during his previous spell at United, among the contenders to return from Tottenham [@lauriewhitwell]

@Tgarratt10 100% agree, and also think he will do worse than Ole. Funny thing is that Ole got more points in his first 15 PL games than Carrick.

Because he’s not had to juggle 4 competitions. Nobody thinks Carrick can win Man United the title, which is what they aspire to be doing. It’s OGS 2.0 and I can see it ending badly. Would any other title aspiring team hire him?
Rory Jennings ⭐ ⭐@Chelsearory

Nobody has accumulated more points in the Premier League than Michael Carrick since he arrived. He’s qualified for the Champions League with games to spare, he’s beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, he’s got Mainoo playing well, the Stretford End bouncing again, how can he not get the job?

@MartienBall If they don't spend at least £350m this summer, they should all be sacked.

INEOS have started with PR spins already. More stories about the “financial situation” are coming so get ready. Unfortunately, if they don’t use this summer to properly turn things around then United are never going to be serious again. They’re basically relying on getting 3-4 signings right every single summer which is unrealistic. Eventually some signings just won’t work out and if your whole rebuild depends on near perfect recruitment every year, you’ll always stay behind the top clubs.
mufcmpb@mufcMPB

🚨🚨🗣️ JUST IN: @David_Ornstein on the summer transfer window for Manchester United: “I DON’T expect it to be a summer of lavish spending. Talk of war chests and unlimited outlay - that’s just not realistic. They will continue to be prudent, they say, and diligent and measured in what they do, as we saw last summer.” #MUFC [@NBCSportsSoccer]

@RegistaCall Holland, who, one year ago, was sacked by a Japanese team only months into the job. Johnny Evans, who has no coaching experience. Travis Binnon, who's only managed youth football. Jonathan Woodgate has only been at Middlesbrough and Bournemouth. Best-in-class👍

Carrick staying is fine, but I’m not convinced keeping his current staff unchanged is the right move. They were brought together quickly for a short term spell... are we sure they’re the right fit for long term?

@Hosang No, they will reminisce on the 5 months as an intern and say he wasn't backed. And when he's sacked, this will be the third time he's been part of a coaching setup that has been sacked at United.

Beth, don't say to me that this season's Luke Shaw is anywhere near the same level that he was in 2020. And for a guy who has an average of 27 games a season in his 12-year United career. He should simply not be at this club. And Pep Guardiola said after the FA Cup final that Lisandro Martínez was top 5 centrebacks in the world so I guess you agree with that to.

Are you all going to say Pep Guardiola doesn’t know what he’s talking about now regarding Luke Shaw? Luke Shaw when fit is a very, very good player. Settled by one of the best managers ever.

“Luke Shaw, one of my favourite players” 👀 Pep Guardiola named Luke Shaw while talking about seeing Manchester United players at the Youth Cup final, also mentioning Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Michael Carrick 💬🔴
