🚨🇺🇸 BREAKING: OHIO SUPREME COURT LETS BIG PHARMA OFF THE HOOK FOR $650M In a 5-2 ruling, the Ohio Supreme Court decided CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart can’t be sued under public nuisance laws for fueling the opioid crisis. Instead, the court said the Ohio Product Liability Act applies—blocking the $650.9 million verdict Lake and Trumbull counties won in federal court. The counties argued the pharmacies created a public nuisance, and a 2021 jury agreed. The pharmacies appealed, claiming the liability law doesn’t allow for payouts like this. The result? A huge legal win for the pharmacies and a blow to over 3,000 similar lawsuits nationwide. Dissenting justices said the counties didn’t even ask for damages, so the law shouldn’t apply. The majority pointed to 2005 updates to the law after another public nuisance case—this time against gun makers. Moral of the story? Ohio’s public nuisance law has no teeth when it comes to corporate giants. Source: USA Today
