@jdpoc @two_truths Presumably you feel that way because of recent polling? Recent polling also uses data from 2024. It asks who did you vote for at last election etc then maps it to population models based on the last election to estimate how views are changing

Watch carefully for this in the future, it’s bound to be a scary trend. Here’s a polling organisation using AI models to answer their own polls, based on information from 2024 Madness. Complete madness.

@jdpoc @two_truths yes they use data from 2024, that was the last general election. that data would feed into a model

@jdpoc @two_truths but thats what all polling is. even a MRP model or logistic regression or random forest. these are all statistical models that essentially create synthetic voters using weights from past behaviour and a sample of recent real voters. no idea if it's accurate but not new concept

@two_truths “Synthetic respondents super population model” sounds pretty much like imaginative and manipulative use of AI to me.

@JohnDCook Try QWEN3.5 supposed to be very good for OCR stuff, on early experiments with math papers that seems to hold up.

I did an experiment this morning, asking Grok and ChatGPT to reproduce sheet music from a photo. The results were hilariously bad. 🧵 1/n

@nikitabier Why can't we just have control over what appears on the timeline and not see content from people we don't follow? Like things used to be.

People come X to get a pulse on humanity. Because of that, the platform must make every effort to resist anything that misrepresents or adulterates that pulse. There is nothing more unsettling than expecting you’re reading the words of a human -- only to find it was a machine, or an account operating at the direction of an undisclosed commercial or governmental entity. In the AI era, our product, policies, and approach will need to evolve meaningfully. Some things may not work, but we intend to employ every available tool and strategy to secure the global town square.

@OndrejCertik @asmeurer @SymPy I use it every day. It's crucial that we have open source software tools and open access publications so thanks a lot to you and the team.

Credit goes to @asmeurer for leading @SymPy for over a decade and the rest of the hundreds of developers. Thank you! But I started it and spent most of my twenties helping getting it off the ground. Too late for my own university time (although I did use it a bit during my Ph.D.), but it enabled a lot of younger students to use it, so I am very happy with the outcome.

@OndrejCertik @SymPy love stories like this. building something for 20 years that people doubted, then watching it become the default. persistence pays off

@AnthropicAI ive just now regained access to use it again and carry on with what I was doing. If you think this makes me more likely to "convert" to Max rather than close all accounts completely you are silly.
