I was told my LinkedIn posts are getting “esoteric.” I’m talking about coding agents, structured context, data abstraction layers. Meanwhile on X, people are debating recursive self-improving agents bootstrapping civilization. Different baselines.

I think the theory is that people of your race are going to share more genes with you, so you wind up with more copies of your genes in your child if your partner is of your same race. Think about it like how, if you have a child with your sibling it will, on average share 75% of your genes rather than the 50% if you have a child with a random stranger. The same token, if your partner is your 30th cousin you will share more genes than if they are your 100th cousin. It's still stupid.

"The Selfish Gene" really isn't supposed to be a commandment. One of the nice things about being human is you can self-reflect and tell biology to go f itself where it's standing in the way of you being happy. Don't be a slave to a molecule.

WTF @elonmusk ? It looks like X is sneakily trying to turn your "Following" page algorithmic (it defaulted to popular BTW). If I wanted to read a shitty algorithmic feed, I'd switch over to the FYP. I just want to read the people I follow in reverse chronological order.

This doesn’t seem to be supported by the Qu’ran. brandeis.edu/projects/fse/m… A fanatical mind set is dangerous.

Story Time: Since I keep seeing claims that Islam is a religion of peace on here, I thought I would share my anecdotal experience that I don’t talk about much. I went to elementary school with the girls in this photo in a small town in Texas. The girl on the right was in my class from kindergarten to 4th grade. Her family was Islamic and her father instilled in her that she should despise Christians. She would openly talk about this. Well, my grandpa was a pastor in the same town where we went to school. It was obvious to most that our family was Christian. I remember specifically trying to play with Sarah at one point and she told me she hated me because I worshiped Jesus. I was taken aback. It was weird. Years later, long after their family moved away further north, I was shocked to find out that Sarah and her sister Amina were murdered by their Islamic father in the form of an honor killing because they refused certain tenets of their father’s religion. He lured them into his cab, lied to them and told them he was taking them out to eat. Instead he shot them both, left them in the car, and fled like a coward. He was wanted for a long time until he was finally arrested in 2020, as well as his son for harboring a fugitive. I think about Sarah often. How tragically her life ended. And it ended that way because her father truly believed the teachings. So don’t tell me some bullcrap about how Islam is a religion of peace. It’s not. Sarah and Amina Said are dead, and it’s not because their father read his book wrongly. They are dead because their father believed what it actually taught.

@siridhyan Like, all LLM makers impart their bias in the system prompts. But only xAI seems to actively *try* to impart strong, specific political biases in its prompt.

@siridhyan Right, I've seen its output a ton on Twitter and it's generally been good. The problem is that incidents like this, and mecha Hitler, make it clear that you never know when xAI is going to aggressively tamper with its prompts.

@siridhyan @mattyglesias Hahaha, I'll call you soon 😊. I don't hear or see words when my head replays them. They're just... there? I *do* replay music in my head very well, though! I don't have a ton of problems with homonyms, no - but it's getting worse in my old age...

@siridhyan I don't know what to tell you, man. I can recognize smells but I don't experience them without stimuli. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@siridhyan When I smell something for real life I smell it, I sense the thing. I guess it's in my head? I don't really associate it with a place. But I can't at all replicate that sensation absent external stimulus.

@HeyImSeph If I recall lavender and orient to the smell, I can roughly experience a whiff of it, though faint in comparison to a full actual whiff. You are saying that only a trace of that occurs for you?

@siridhyan I don't paint scenes in my head when I read. I actually mostly skip over visual descriptions in books, other than basics that are important to the plot ("the characters are in a bar now") because I don't do anything with the information.

@siridhyan Probably! But you'd still expect it to be possible for a blind from birth person to, e.g., model shapes without doing it visually.

@HeyImSeph I would expect different results from a blind person who once could see and one blind from birth. 🙏

@siridhyan Think about a blind person. You would expect them to be able to model a shape, like a Roman 2, but you wouldn't expect them to be visualizing it to do so.

@siridhyan I can't really hold images in my head at all. Like if I force it I can kinda get a brief image in my head, but for less than a second. And it still doesn't really feel like "seeing".
