It will get almost no publicity, but the government just won a vote to take control of the Electoral Commission. That’s right: Johnson will now wield ultimate power over another of the bodies designed to hold executive power in check. This is not a functioning democracy.

The Government have announced plans to sneak a whole new section into the #ElectionsBill, which has already had its second reading, to impose first past the post on all mayoral and PCC elections.
This latest announcement confirms what we've long known - the government's elections bill proposals are less about improving our democracy than they are an attack on voters ability to cast their ballot and have their voice count.
