Love your stuff @Camp4! Talked to a friend this week about how easy we over-complicate our time and end up unhappy. For me it's:
- Faith
- Family and playing with my kids
- Convos with core friends
- Basketball
- Guitar
- Games, any game
Another one of my favorites, if you've had a brutal day and don't have a lot of time, just go do something you are really good at. Oddly enough for me, it's Sudoku....brings me a lot of joy at the end of a long day haha

This 55 second clip might make you 55% happier. We live in a world gone crazy. When you become disillusioned… Retreat to the things that matter. For me, that’s: Family Nature Rock climbing Writing Faith Helping others The rest is noise. 1. Get clear on what matters to you. 2. Build your life around that stuff. 3. Ignore the noise. P.S. Thinking a lot lately about how the world just keeps getting more and more productive, things get easier, and then somehow we get busier and busier and more anxious/overwhelmed/stressed.
Now, maybe the world is not more overwhelmed or stressed than ever before. Maybe we are just more aware of it because of social media and the inter-connectedness of the world. I do think in First World America we are more overwhelmed because so many basic needs are met and now we are hyper-focused on making meaning and worth in our lives. We haven’t had to TOIL on much in our lives, and I think effort and work brings a lot of purpose. Part of our nature is to work and to create.
Regarding my first point about productivity and ease of life, just this morning I had:
- The temperature to the exact degree I want it in both my house and my car
- I got up exactly when I wanted from an alarm
- Coffee was made in a matter of minutes
- I got shoes that fit my feet, clothes that fit perfectly that had come to my house in less than 24 hours after ordering on my phone
- I sent text messages to other people across the US
- Listened to a podcast about the absolute latest information about what is happening in the world
Just 100 years ago, I couldn’t set the temperature exactly how I wanted, I wasn’t driving a car as fast as I did today, not sure if coffee was made that fast, no way I got anything delivered to me in less than 24 hours, and I definitely was not this connected to all the happenings in the world.
Now with all this ease, it feels there is SO much to think about. Not sure if anyone else feels this way:
- You need toe spacers cause your shoes are scrunching your toes
- Are you cold plunging and sauna?
- Have you used OpenClaw and the latest AI tool?
- Should you be invested in gold? Bitcoin? Tech stocks are down so maybe do those
- Stretching?
- Learning a new hobby?
The list goes on and on and on.
My wife and I are swing dancing on Mondays which we LOVE, but heck swing dancing probably wasn’t a thing all that long ago. Now you can swing, surf, play an instrument, work a job, work a side job, be a parent, a husband, run triathlons, ski, basketball, tweet….
I am the guy trying to be all of that above.
What I’ve noticed, is no amount of doing all these things brings fulfillment in life. There is ALWAYS going to be more. Just when you hit a huge win in your work or life, you leave and realize there are 17 new massive innovations in the world that you need to be thinking about. Or you realize you are behind in some other area of life.
What I’m realizing for myself and the people I admire most - the people who seem to be Grounded. Aligned. Joyful. They have a cadence of how they go about life. And it seems they structure their thinking in this framework (whether they consciously realize they are doing it or not)
Purpose
Mindset
Habits
Then, shut off the noise for a long time
I’ll break it down how I see it.
PURPOSE. I believe everyone has a purpose. A purpose is an anchor to your life. It guides your thinking. For me as a Christian, I firmly believe my purpose is to glorify God. What does that mean? It means that I was designed a certain way - to create, to love, to work, to play, to be connected to others. When I do those things, I reflect who God is, because like a son, I resemble my father. Or, like a guitar, I am most beautiful when I’m played well and played the way I was designed to be played. So when I live into those values, I find I am most ALIVE and HAPPY. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
So for me, everyday I start with my purpose. More simply, my purpose today is to Love God and Love Others. That simple. I find that when I start that way, all the decisions of the day get easier. It’s not “should I do this task or that task?”, it’s “who can I love today? How can I do my best at the thing in front of me” It helps me be present and not distracted by the noise.
I then believe everyone has their own unique purpose that gets discovered over time - I am a husband to my wife, a parent to my kids, a leader in my job, someone who enjoys basketball and guitar. Those things get discovered over time. But still in each of them, I have my purpose statement guiding me to keep me present.
MINDSET. Second step is mindset. I believe that everyone who is grounded starts their day with gratitude and humility. Could write all about that another time. If you are grateful, you aren’t trying to keep up with the Jones’. You aren’t operating from a deficit, you operate from a place of fulfillment. If you are humble, you are at peace in your heart. You then can take on any challenge of the day because your soul is at peace!
HABITS. Third, you put it into action. To do that, you pick your habits and remove the decision making. I read the Bible, go to the gym these times, go on a date with my wife every other week, stretch, etc. You pick those and put them on autopilot and let compounding do its work instead of constantly evaluating every single area of your life all the time. But you have to commit to those things! You have to be consistent for it to yield results, and the biggest result you gain is just the joy of the actual actions themselves and the benefits they produce in your life. You get both. It’s about both the process, and the result, but most often you realize that when you are in the process of being present with the handful of commitments you’ve made, you are fulfilled. You’re creating, you’re loving, you’re working, you’re moving. You’re doing all the actions that you were designed to do.
Finally, you shut off the noise. Remove some of the inputs. Don’t listen to every single podcast known to man. Don’t scroll instagram and twitter forever. Just delete them! Get off the finance app. Give yourself guardrails.
Anyways, those are my thoughts for the day. PURPOSE, MINDSET, HABITS. Eventually I plan to tighten this up and make it into a one pager at least for myself to go back to from time to time.
Ps. I haven’t read “Anxious Generation” but that’s my next book. I’m sure there are some great thoughts in there that inform my thinking.

If you are a Millennial Dad you are likely working your tail off right now and carrying and insane amount of weight.
You go home every night, try to be the best 50/50 parent you can be, and give your partners and kids everything you have left.
You worry about the world and AI and the price of precious metals and the constant political clown show.
You might spend too much time online or work too much but when you don’t, you feel like you’re behind on everything.
You still try to enjoy yourself from time to time if you can.
I see you.
Keep grinding.
Keep showing up.

@seanpatward Love this! I’ve been saying lately, “I’m living on the green side of the grass.” So awesome to have all those things but more importantly be aware of it.

Currently on a family summer vacation and realizing that this trip is the pinnacle of my life.
Not in the sense that it’s all downhill from here, but in the sense that right now, I believe deeply that…
THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO STRIVE FOR
I don’t need the next deal, next title advancement, next investment, next trip etc.
Everything I could ever want in life I have right in front of me. Health, family, friends, faith, ability to travel…and my camera. I’ve won the freaking lotto.
It’s honestly a different feeling for me. I’ve spent my entire life building for the future. I kept building and building until the universe slapped me in the face and showed me that I was squandering the present, perhaps the best years of my life, for some imaginary future.
Lesson learned.

Highlight of the day -
Every quarter I run a “Culture Meeting” for our office where we cover our top 6 values:
Attitude
Ownership
Work ethic
Integrity
Communication
Learning
Im always nervous leading up to it wondering if the team will be embrace it. And every time I’m pleasantly surprised by how they lean in! I blocked 1 hour and we went for over 2 hours!
We talked about where the team feels we are doing well and where we need to improve with the values and left with actionable steps as a team and as individuals on where to improve.
Fires me up!

- Rich Dad Poor Dad
- Wirehouses
- “escaping the 9-5 rat race”
- real estate is “passive” income
- anything related to Grant Cardone
There’s so many more. Would love to hear what others have to add!

I really enjoy thinking about the big picture of life and gaining perspective. I’m constantly thinking about how to grow as a person, and I love encouraging people to do the same.
I recently tried a thought project that was impactful for me, so I started sharing it with a handful of friends and encouraged them to do the same. Then one of my best friends encouraged me to share it here as it may be helpful to more people out there.
Prompt:
Who are the 5 people you want to model your life after and why?
The goal is to dive deep into understanding the consistent traits/behaviors of people you admire most, so that you can pull out the real things you are striving for, not the things that maybe distract you.
I’m fortunate to know a lot of incredible people! However, as I dove into the project, I found there were only a few people who I really wanted to model my whole life after, including how they care for others, how they pursue work and dreams, the habits they have, etc.
In the 5 names I picked, 3 of them I know fairly well, and 2 of the people are famous that I don’t know personally, but I’ve followed their journeys for a while and have a sense of how they live.
Then I wrote out the common traits. Here is what I found:
Their purpose is huge to them. They know why they exist and are rooted in their beliefs.
They love their spouses and kids well.
They are deeply loyal.
They are confident in who they are and not easily phased by the opinions of other people.
They sacrifice their time for others.
Making money isn’t the focus, but passion for what they do is the focus.
They don’t drink a lot (this was an interesting discovery to realize).
They work very hard in everything they do.
They pursued a dream, but not at the cost of their wellbeing.
They prioritize their health.
They mentor other people.
Listing out these traits was eye opening to see what behaviors I admire most in the people I look up to. None of the traits were about “what” they did, but mainly about how they went through all aspects of their lives. They are all in different fields, and they pursue what they do with passion. The list included a serial entrepreneur, a non-profit leader, a professional athlete, a coach, and an executive at a large company. That’s a broad list.
Anyways, if you have some free time this week, try it out! I’m curious what you’ll find and would love to hear what you discovered. At a minimum, as you list out those people you look up to, if you know them, tell them how they’ve impacted you!

Highlight of the day: every 2 weeks I have a call with a young man in college I’m mentoring. We are building his life plan account by account.
This week was finances. We talked budgeting, the benefits of compounding interest, the stock market, and a whole lot more.
One of the most fulfilling moments of my week!

Spontaneous phone call with an old coworker and we quickly jumped into the topic of Gratitude and how it’s a cheat code for life.
Not happy with where you are in life? Just focus on what you do have and how far you’ve come.
Brings joy to the present, and makes you aware of just how much you may achieve in the future.
My inspiring thought of the day :)
