I went to the Special Olympics of Washington 50th anniversary Gold Gala tonight and, as you can expect, it was wonderful and a great time with a large room of giving people.
But I took a moment to notice - the difference in wealthy donors, there to give and make and impact as well as be seen, compared to the athletes and their friends.
The unrestrained love the athletes brought with the joy of seeing their friends in a different setting was amazing to be a part of. The openness they brought to every conversation and the delight, no, need, the burning need to tell you why it makes a difference in their lives to be seen, included, challenged, pushed and celebrated when they win.
The donors had a good time, but above all, it was a transfusion that was needed and an insistently beautiful reminder of the value of being together, of pushing ourselves and celebrating finding the limits of who we are, together.
Reporting live from the Seattle Warzone that you’ll clearly be hearing about in the coming weeks - deep joy and love of all exists here and you should be so fortunate to tap into it once, if not forever.
