It’s great to finally see the manufactured result in person: the largest monolithic aerospike ever produced, 200 kN, 1 m tall, generated by the Noyron Large Computational Engineering Model and produced by @HBDAdditive2015 on one of the world’s largest metal 3D printers.

#CounterPoint Another fine example of how humans hate change, especially if forced. Auto Start-Stop has never been officially mandated in Germany. Yet most of the autos mfg'ed from the early 201x time frame come standard with this feature. Auto mfgs designed and install starter motors with a considerably greater cycle rating and other required components too. Batteries were upgraded to higher capacity units and oil systems design for better drain control for bearing lubrication. Manufacturer testing and SAE papers show no significant extra wear even after simulated high-cycle tests (e.g., equivalent to 100,000 restarts). Real-world tests (e.g., AAA, SAE) show 5–7% fuel savings (or up to 7–26% in city driving), with no offsetting major durability penalties in modern cars. And fuel not being burned obviously reduces emissions. In a way, this ranks right up there with the seatbelt law. Everyone complained about it at first, now it just is...

@blind_via I feel the overall external dimensions factor should be based on needs like limited PCB space. Arrays generally do not compete pricewise with discreet passives, even if PNP costs are included.

Custom PCB packages are at the discretion of the manufacturer. No real standard for resistor packs, so the manufacturers can do it how they see fit. If you know of a resistor pack footprint standard share it. Which is better: overall external dimensions, or 4x discrete method?

I've utilized PartsBox for ~5 years and it's served me well. A hair over 1k part numbers, 1.7M comps in inventory and hundreds of projects. PartsBox was created and is run by Jan Rychter, who is the founder and primary developer/engineer. It's his personal bootstrapped project and I'd bet he's open to feature requests.

@HiFourPac I mean build or buy depends heavily on time-to-build, a lot of software is very easy to build now. This is not too easy but you get the added benefit of just adding on features whenever you want. I will probably end up buying for a couple months (at least)

Ahhh - Robbie Van Winkle, aka Vanilla ICE. Yes, even an attempt to break mousebites by hand offers the possibility to flex the PCB and crack MLCCs, break solder joints, etc... But is does suck when you have high density 20up plus panel configs. There's better production options avail like the pneumatic nibbler in the image. Or if you're like me, put the PCB panel under the laser and cut away. 😉

De-paneling your PCBs can put risk to components on the edge. This one looks particularly at risk if the v-score is bent upwards at all. Take care with your de-paneling

@smartphone_jp1 Looking at the images, it seems to be a single PCB with extremely wide edge rails likely to fit the minimum size PCB dimension requirements? With a case like this, I would be more inclined to increase the PCB outline itself to the min required size minus the min required top/bottom rail width. Then add board cutouts under the antenna and USB connector ends. Additionally, run non-plates slots along the edges parallel to the IO holes, but leave the slots 6 to 8mm shorter than the board edge and build mouse bite tabs at each corner. HOW it's done really depends on the capabilities of the software being utilized. The attached drawing is a misc 100x90mm bulk PCB with a finished PCB of about the same size as the original. I tossed a WiFi module on for the general concept. FWIW, I didn't bother add the drill holes for the mousebites and the 5mm top/bottom rails don't display in my 3D viewer.

I have spoken previously about being pro-miniaturization advocate for PCBs because it's fun costs less and it makes better use of the materials and human effort being used to do so. I am now an anti-flatten everything guy. Give me a thicker device with a 3x better design ty
