@OptcgUnc @fabby_gg There was a bug around blockers - it wasn't firing a sequence pivot when opponent blocks early. The example board should be working as intended now.

@fabby_gg @HiThereJosh +2 on this I like the idea fr but the math feels off. Or it might need a more clear ui to be used correctly for new users

As you may know I've been neck-deep in lethal math theory for the last couple weeks, and today I'm excited to unveil why. Introducing, OPTCGLab: a lethal calculator that finds the best lethal lines based on your board state given your opponent's deck makeup. Link in next!

@ConstanceS82797 For sure! I'll definitely look to put more into making it custom and personal if it ends up growing.

@HiThereJosh Would you consider hiring an artist for some simple UI or someone to look at the code once it's bugfixed/out of beta? subbed to the Patreon to help that possibly🙏

Full disclosure: I used AI for the code, UI, and tests in building the OPTCGLab site. It's essentially at the limit of what I'm willing to use AI for (I don't use it in my videos or other creative work), but I totally get that people may not want to use the tool as a result!

@HiThereJosh Appreciate your honesty! It's definitely hard to do so it's understandable to just be upfront with everyone about it😊 Would you put that in the description of the video?

@HiThereJosh Interesting tool! It would be useful to include the opponent’s open Don count in the calculation, in order to properly account for event counters (+3 or +4, assuming they currently cost 1 DON!! in the meta).

@ZelCoMTCG Yeah that's a disclaimer in the help section - I can't model counter behavior perfectly, so the multi-ordering sequences are often weird. What was your line and logic, and what do you think is the problem with the way the engine calculated? I wanna examine the line

@HiThereJosh Imo the second answer for this is actually the correct one except the ordering is fs off. But the ordering takes human error into account so it makes sense that it wouldn’t get it right

@HiThereJosh There was another instance of it getting lethals wrong through blockers. For the BY lethal puzzle on my page

@fabby_gg The tool assumes optimal defense. floor/ceiling is just the range of counter/cards that a specific attack line will demand from the opponent. it's a commonly used idea that i've seen across my research (altho i dont think ive heard it referred to as floor/ceiling specifically)

@HiThereJosh The more complex the boardstate is with multiple lifes/blockers/attackers the more paths have to be calculated. Also why is there a floor and ceiling for counters? When you go for game you should expect perfect play from opp

@Evilsquash301 I used AI for the code, UI, and tests. It's essentially at the limit of what I'm personally willing to use AI tools for (I don't use it in my videos), but I imagine people will see it differently

@HiThereJosh did a simple test: leader 5k board: 2k and 3k opp 5k leader, 3 cards, 0 life, 1 blocker its shows the best line to go for game is 7k start, which is wrong.

@HiThereJosh @Kemo9319 Yeah but its still like a 1 of. The real winner was 10c shanks. He was bad bc he couldnt ever clear 12s without set up that could be disrupted. Now pop shanks could be a 2-4 of and more important than rush shanks depending on the meta

@itsahmedyall In every stale meta I've found ways to have fun by doing stupid challenges with shitty decks that are bad but have interesting interactions. That is getting harder to do, esp with a ton of the earlier "wacky" cards having rotated out, and less new ones being introduced every set

@HiThereJosh responding to game mechanics aside, such as nerfing removal, isn't the "not having fun" argument always been consistently the same with every format anyway? at least since OP12 when I joined, every card game always has meta that isn't fun when solved. or am i wrong?

yup. Ive never been a "alt wincon" diehard but it feels like the ways to win an OPTCG game has flattened out to an absurd degree. Nerfing removal, which is essentially the strongest alt wincon we've ever had, was the first step toward this (i hated removal tho)
Monkeyfight TCG@MonkeyVanguard

Post op13 game design has been based around overly tuned homogenizing leaders. Ace, Imu, Boa, Lucy, and to a lesser extent Enel and Mihawk, all have clear bounds to the decisions their decks can make. There's more power, but less wacky choices and less fun after awhile.
