Parliament has passed the UK’s Tobacco and Vapes Bill to create the first smoke-free generation. From 2027 the legal age to buy cigarettes and tobacco will rise by one year every single year. Anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 will never be legally able to purchase them in their lifetime. Current adult smokers are completely unaffected, this only targets future generations.

But right now, Danielle Smith and the UCP government have been systematically undermining human rights. They used the notwithstanding clause four times in three weeks, knowingly passing unconstitutional laws. Now, there are efforts to erode your voting rights by drawing electoral boundaries designed to silence your voice. When independent processes are ignored, when the rules are changed, when power is concentrated, people start to question whether their voice still counts. We cannot afford to look the other way. Because our democracy is strongest when it is fair, transparent, and rooted in respect for the people it serves.
