@Luminary_Wings Vogue is from ballet and fashion shows…maybe closest would be the cakewalk in terms of dance tradition through lines, but this is America..very few American cultural artifacts will be straight up African

I may be ignorant to more details but that’s why I’m asking this question
What is the African dance tradition that influenced and lead to Vogue dance style?
I remember watching the film and saying hmm no tap dancers but then realized tap dance wasn’t in the line up because of its origin has such high Irish influence hence the Irish dance scene that had the footwork.
So with the conversation being held now about vogue dance style not being included in Sinners. I’m curious if I’m just not aware of its trace to a traditional African dance cause wasn’t that what the scene was about how the dances traced back and been here for centuries
English

@Luminary_Wings And while that I am not certain is rooted in something from Africa as a tradition (cakewalking, I mean), that would have existed as a tradition prior to the 1930s since it was birthed on plantations which would still reflect the history and ancestral reverence of that scene

@Luminary_Wings The idea of shade being I don’t have to TELL you you a mess because you know you a mess is found in the same covert hautiness of the cakewalk. Just like the ring shout is a predecessor to the Ephebism found in the Black church during praise and worship
