Delighted to be part of @TOIBhopalNews's special page today. The #Katni story has proved long enough to be split over two weekends.

The Bhand Deul #Jain temple at Arang, #Chhattisgarh. Often missed while driving from #Raipur to #Sirpur, this fine temple, dated to the 10th - 11th century, has three black idols representing Ajitnath, Neminath, and Shantinath. Stunning iconography on the exterior too.

@bhogleharsha We live in times when 2 IPL performances, sometimes spanning 15-20 balls, is enough to create a 'legend'.

Notice there is a new "legends" league round every corner. Obviously my English teacher at school didn't teach me well enough because we grew up thinking legends are very rare and extraordinarily distinguished people.

@saranstm Srikkanth became the captain only because Vengsarkar and Shastri could not be controlled by the BCCI. They wanted the most pliable guy possible and zeroed down on Azhar, not realizing what would come next.

Srikkanth was the scape goat of the players vs BCCI politics. Players were forming a players' union and by default, Srkkanth was to be the head as he was the captain. BCCI fixed him by sacking him citing non-performance.
Nimish Dubey@nimishdubey

A lot of us were surprised when the BCCI summarily sacked Kris Srikkanth after the tour of Pakistan in 1989. Sportsworld magazine (edited by MAK 'Tiger' Pataudi) even took inspiration from Esquire's epic cover of Muhammad Ali in 1968, to portray the level of injustice that had been perceived to be done. India had performed well in the series and come back undefeated, with a number of youngsters - Sanjay Manjarekar, Sachin Tendulkar and Vivek Razdan doing well. Srikkanth's handling of the team was generally praised, especially his refusal to be ruffled even when attacked by a spectator who rushed on to the field during the series. His batting form had not been the greatest, but he had seen the team through what was supposed to be one of the toughest tours against one of the strongest teams in the world and had come back with a very honorable drawn series. The board however, thought differently and sacked him not only as a captain but also a player. One really wonders what would have happened if he had been allowed to stay on. Many feel he would have gelled better with Bedi as a manager than the very raw Azhar did. #Sportsworld #Esquire #IndianCricket #Cricket #Nostalgia #Srikkanth #MuhammadAli #Nostalgia (@Raja_Sw, @VatsMusings, @anandkumarn, @alawyerwrites, @CraigNelsy, @tds122, @WG_RumblePants, @ushrit2020, @TheGrou75062162, @indranil9)

@YRDeshmukh @kushanmitra Bang on. I have a place in Greater Noida and find that the Jewar airport is 38 kms (that's an hour) even from here. Imagine landing at Jewar in the middle of the night and then going to some place in North/West/South Delhi.

In India, after finishing a good cricketing career, players become commentators, coaches, businessmen and more. In Pakistan, they become mullahs. What a contrast!

@sanjaymanjrekar The world test championship does not feel like a 'championship'. The long drawn format, over two years, always ending in the first half of the English summer, is not great from a spectator viewpoint. The final needs to be a multination test series shootout.

Slowly, a hierarchy/ranking of men’s ICC titles is taking shape up in the minds of cricket fans. It goes something like this- 1) 50 overs World Cup. 2) ICC Test championship 3) T20 WC 4) Champions trophy.

This breathtaking view of #Kalinjar Fort captures the sheer scale of the fortress, built atop an isolated plateau of the Vindhya Range. Looking down at its defensive walls and the ancient ruins of the main citadel, it's easy to see why this spot was considered impregnable.

Vulgar. We cracked UPSC in 1988 and a few hugs from parents and friends life went on as usual. All bcoz it was still just another job, not as if u opened Kuber's treasure. I remember catching rickety UPSTC bus to Mussoorie from ISBT bcoz the AC bus was way out of reach.

That’s a UPSC successful candidate being garlanded like a politician and he acting like one. Yes he has worked hard to clear a tough competition but it’s citizens who start treating them like Lords from day one and then crib about their arrogance later.

Self loathing, self hating apologetic “Indian” who obviously thinks India plays on a different pitch than the one the Kiwis get to bat. These creatures love taking a dump on India. They can’t stand India winning fair and square. They hate India’s success.
Pradeep Magazine@pradeepmagazine

We will rejoice at Indian batters making a mockery of New Zealand bowling forgetting the fact that providing a wicket so perfect for hitting the ICC is making a mockery of the sport itself.

My latest story on @firstpost touches #Multan, in #Pakistan. The cover picture itself is a travesty and is representative of the fact that there is no trace of Multan's once-magnificent Hindu temples anymore. All that remains are tombs. This is a civilizational loss.

The ancient but little-visited #Yogini shila, #Chitrakoot. Though located close to Sati Anusuya Temple, few of the pilgrims who visit the temple come here. Perhaps that is a blessing for the unprotected Yogini site. Came to know of this site thanks to @soumitrashashi
