@KSAciviliz3 None are names after their own king, that’s the point. The two named after rulers are colonial.

Amusing how you mock the name of Saudi Arabia, as if naming conventions around the world follow some sacred rule—when in reality, many nations are named after individuals, dynasties, or even foreign figures. Take your own country, Australia—a name derived from a Latin term Terra Australis, assigned by European colonizers who neither represented the land’s original identity nor bothered to preserve it. Hardly a benchmark for originality. As for Saudi Arabia, being named after a ruling family is historically consistent and entirely legitimate. In fact, numerous countries follow similar patterns: United States of America—named after Amerigo Vespucci, Colombia—after Christopher Columbus, Bolivia—after Simón Bolívar, Philippines—after Philip II of Spain. So if these names pass without ridicule, singling out one only exposes inconsistency—not wit. Perhaps the issue isn’t the name itself, but the lens through which you choose to view it.

@GeauxGabrielle You are moving the goalposts! Disproportionate: not corresponding in size or degree to smth else “girls are disproportionately targeted for incarceration” is untrue “girls are disproportionately incarcerated for status offences” is true but not what you said

@GeauxGabrielle Girls are not disproportionately targeted for incarceration? Boys make up 75% of youth incarcerated and women are twice as likely to avoid incarceration when convicted. Where are you getting your facts?

Until 1967, children were not protected by the 4th amendment right to due process. The carceral system would keep them locked up until 21 for no reason at all and sometimes never knowing who their accusers even were. This is ESPECIALLY true for girls, who are disproportionately targeted for incarceration

Tennessee is considering a bill (SB1868/HB2526) that would lock up foster kids indefinitely, even if they haven’t been charged with a crime. You can help kill this bill today. Here's what happens when kids are locked up without a crime: Hillary Transue was a teen in Pennsylvania. She made a MySpace page mocking her high school’s strict vice principal. At the end she wrote, "When you find this I hope you have a sense of humor." He didn’t. Instead of detention or a meeting with parents, Hillary was taken to juvenile court before Judge Mark Ciavarella. Her hearing lasted about 60 seconds. She was handcuffed right there and locked up. Her mother was horrified as Hillary who had never been in serious trouble, was treated like a dangerous criminal. Years later it was revealed Ciavarella was taking millions in kickbacks from private detention centers to lock up thousands of kids in the now-infamous Kids for Cash scandal. Fortunately for Hillary, she had a loving family and "only" spent about a month locked up. SB1868/HB2526 would allow Tennessee to detain foster kids, potentially until they are adults, without a charge even being filed, based on predictions about their behavior. We’re going to protect these kids from ever being put through that. I’ll explain how you can help in this thread.

@nikicaga It’s quite similar to antebellum Southern society, you can’t maintain the obviously unjust system without your society being affected in some way.

AIPAC has now reported nearly $1 million in spending against Kat Abughazaleh in IL-09, including a $750,000 TV buy. Its latest ad attacks Kat for taking money from James Cox Chambers Jr., a self-described "Marxist-Leninist" and member of the billionaire Cox family.

An unarmed Iranian ship was invited, along with the U.S., to be part of an Indian Naval exercise, and its sailors paraded on land before the president. The U.S. at the last minute pulled out of the exercise and instead attacked the Iranian ship with a torpedo. Breaking with all norms of civilization and warfare, we then refused to rescue the drowning survivors. The Sri Lanka Navy was left to pull the dead bodies from the water. I am hard pressed to think of any other nation throughout history that would do something so cowardly and despicable. We are genuinely in a league of our own, and American media — mostly shrugging off the bombing of a girls school and acting as if carpet bombing Tehran is a normal military tactic — is deeply complicit.
Kanwal Sibal@KanwalSibal

The Iranian ship will not be where it was if we had not invited it to talk part in our Milan exercise. We were the hosts. I am told that as per protocol for this exercise ships cannot carry any ammunition. It was defenceless. The Iranian naval personnel had paraded before our president . The attack by the US submarine was premeditated as the US was aware of the Iranian ship’s presence in the exercise to which the US navy was invited but withdrew from participation at the last minute, presumably with this operation in mind. The US has ignored India’s sensitivities as the ship was in these waters because of India’s invitation. We are far from politically or militarily responsible for the US attack. Our“responsibility” is at a moral and human plane. A word of condolence by the Indian Navy ( after political clearance) at the loss of lives of those who were our invitees and saluted our president would be in order.

@WebsterCS2 Well I said some of the best and you have to consider their decision with regard to their means. They built a great team with little to no money between 2020 and 2023 and have been probably the most profitable org since then. Their scouting and team building is elite.
