Former Energy Minister and 2024 NPP Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against TV XYZ, Power 97.9 FM and broadcaster Salifu Maase, aka, Mugabe Maase, over allegations linking him to an alleged scheme to sabotage electricity supply in parts of the Ashanti Region. According to court filings, the suit follows the broadcast of an audio recording on the programme “Inside Politics,” which alleged that Dr. Opoku Prempeh paid ECG District Engineers to deliberately disrupt power supply in the region. The former Minister described the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to his reputation, and is seeking a retraction, public apology, perpetual injunction and other reliefs from the court.
