I’m actually glad that Messi & Ronaldo’s careers lasted as long as they did, because in away, it helped sort the players out in terms of ability. Age has stripped them of their physical prowess -that explosiveness, speed, agility is all gone. So what they’re both left with is their most basic abilities and instincts. Ronaldo still remains a deadly scorer, but that’s just about it, not much else and his limitations became so glaring during the last 2 world cups in high pressure matches. Messi has retained a very deep bag of scoring, dribble, freekicks, passing, vision & is still arguably the best player in the world despite being away from Europe for 3 years now. It’s surreal when you think about it.
