Today concludes 18 days of touring across France and Belgium with @LegerBattleTour Commando Operations of the Second World War, France under the Jack Boot and Battle of the Bulge. A great few weeks away and so good to see many guests who have toured with me before over previous years. Now looking forward to a little rest ahead of D-Day 82 commemorations.

I’ve been chatting with @1642Author about Charles I today for an ep in a few weeks time Last year we previously did an ep on Prince Rupert of the Rhine, which dispels some of the popular interpretations of the man and even talks about his life as a pirate! Most enjoyable!

@MikeHistorian @HistSyndicate Great Podcast. Glider pilots trained at Ringway (Manchester) Airport and one of our volunteers llived at the side of the airfield in the 1940s and remembers a glider crashing into his farm when he was child. youtu.be/XIrwIyDqUAs

Op Ladbroke gave many lessons to be learned during Op HUSKY - did you know that most of the British gliders were towed by US DC-3s but they were not Dakotas leading to many being shot down? @MikeHistorian is the expert and loves discussing glider ops - this ep leads nicely into ‘Glider Pilots in Sicily’

Just heading off to visit Oradour-sur-Glane for the first time, a location I have wanted to visit for a long time. ‘Down this road on a summer day in 1944, the soldiers came. Nobody lives here now. They stayed only a few hours. When they had gone, the community, which had lived for a thousand years, was dead. This is Oradour-sur-Glane, in France.’

🎙️NEW PODCAST EPISODE🎙️ This new episode explores the life of Edward Massie, the man who conducted the defence of Gloucester in 1643. Richard Graham joins the show to discuss Massie's life and political journey from parliamentarian to royalist. * Was Massie really prepared to hand Gloucester over to the king in 1643? * Apart from his famous defence of Gloucester, what were Massie's other military achievements? * This year marks the 375th anniversary of the 1651 Battle of Worcester - we discuss Massie's role and his failing at Upton Bridge. From Richard's childhood Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - called Crispin - and some political parallels to modern times (Brexit for one) do join us in a canter through the civil wars from Edward Massie's point of view! ‘Women Who Ruled The World: 5000 Years of Female Monarchy’ by @ENortonHistory was superb and opened my eyes to so many rulers and what they did! It is truly global in scope and a superb breadth of research had to go into this. Beth and I discuss this in depth on the pod this week
