Rajiv congratulated the scientists on the successful test of Agni on 22 May, 1989 & reminded the nation: “We lost our independence two centuries ago because we were disunited on the home front and not vigilant on the external front. We must remember that technological backwardness also leads to subjugation. Never again will we allow our freedom to be compromised.”

Is it a dream? Am I reading history? Or, it is merely a distant memory. 8-10% annual GDP growth. A prime minister giving unscripted interview. #DrManmohanSingh

@vsirnate It was obvious from the video that it’s a deepfake. 1. The voiceover was not consistent with movement of the mouth. 2. The content was too outrageous to be true. 3. Lack of surround noise.

Also since I don’t know much about AI etc, how does anyone find out who created a deepfake?

I think this should be investigated by a cyber crime unit. It is incredibly harmful for Indian diplomacy to have someone create a deepfake of the Indian army chief and have it spread across the world on social media. I saw some reputed handles share this. All I ask is please use your logic. Do you really think in this day and age with the kind of location tech that exists, any country needs to tell another country where a naval ship is? The US sub is probably sitting there going “are we a joke to you?” I want to know where this deepfake came from and of course there are issues of consent involved. Gen Dwivedi has a case against anyone who had a role in creating this.
Alt News@AltNews

Deepfake Alert: Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi did not say India shared Iranian warship IRIS Dena’s location with Israel. The viral clip is lifted from a recent interview and the audio is AI-generated. #FactCheck by @OishaniB_ altnews.in/viral-clip-of-…

I’m seeing a lot of amplification of a news item that says that a sailor on board the IRIS Dena told his father, shortly before the torpedo hit, that the US sub had issued two warnings to it. The captain of the Dena, according to this story, did not allow the men to abandon ship. Now, I first saw this tweeted by an Iranian news handle. Now it’s being amplifying through some other handles. The thing is we still don’t know if this is an accurate story. So if you see it, look for other confirmation. I’m looking as well but so far this is the only narrative out there purporting to be from a sailor’s perspective. Let’s wait for the other survivor accounts. Hoping the Sri Lankan press will take this one up even though I suspect they will not be allowed to speak to the press.

Perhaps what unsettles me most is the sense of disbelief. For many of us, the United States was a country we admired deeply—its institutions, its culture, its ideals. To see such callousness now, such indifference to the human cost of war, is profoundly troubling. Power exercised without reflection risks becoming something colder, something stripped of the moral restraint that once gave it legitimacy.
Nirupama Menon Rao 🇮🇳@NMenonRao

There are moments in war that pierce through the abstractions of strategy and power. The sinking of the Iranian warship Dena in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean is one such moment. A ship far from its home waters, sailors far from their families, suddenly consigned to the deep, dark silence of the sea. Whatever the legality of war, the image is haunting: young men swallowed by an ocean that knows nothing of geopolitics. The Indian Ocean has always been, for me, a space of memory, trade, music, and human exchange — not a graveyard of sailors lost to distant rivalries. That an Iranian vessel returning from naval exercises could meet such a fate so far from its shores feels like something from another age, almost like a War of the Worlds moment where the machinery of war intrudes upon the human world with brutal indifference. One cannot help but think of the families waiting for news that will never come, of the letters unwritten, of lives ended beneath cold waters thousands of miles from home. Strategy may justify such acts. Law may permit them. But the ocean keeps its own counsel. It reminds us that every war, however rationalised, leaves behind human sorrow in its wake. The question lingers uneasily: for what purpose were these lives lost in the depths of a faraway sea? #IndianOcean #WarAndHumanity #RememberTheSailors

A mobile cold storage unit valued at Rs. 2.2 million has been donated by the Galle business community to the National Hospital in Galle to assist in storing the bodies of victims recovered from the Iranian vessel incident off Sri Lanka. Hospital sources said the donation was made after authorities faced difficulties storing the large number of bodies recovered following the maritime tragedy, as the hospital’s existing mortuary capacity was insufficient. Iranian authorities are expected to repatriate the bodies to Iran.

@Shubham96Tiwary He’s a reporter pretending to be a journalist and even in that one can see through the charade so easily. Never seen his expert and weighing opinion on anything of substance. At best he’s what Julie Benda called “a clerk.”
