Privileged to have been able to host pupils from the City and Shire @RemSrebScot at @PortyAcad today, hearing from Suvad, survivor of the Siege of Sarajevo and Robert, Forensic Technician following the genocide at Srebrenica. Many important messages including: Our Words Matter.

On Remembrance Sunday, I don’t think I’ve done many better pieces than this: The remarkable story of Erika Schulhof's escape to Aberdeen by Kindertransport. I was privileged to speak to Erika and her husband, Walter, before their deaths. Please read it! pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/past-times/…

A civil rights campaigner who led the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963 has died at the age of 87. Dr Paul Stephenson organised the boycott which overturned a ban on people from ethnic minorities working on buses in the city. A significant figure in history. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Thanks to @BeyondSreb who delivered some impactful real-life learning experiences to our S3 Humanities pupils through the #Inseparable workshop which focuses on how intolerance and hatred can turn into violence and war. #ProudOfPorty Thanks to @HistoryAtPorty for organising. 👍

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was the largest protest gathering for civil rights of its time, bringing some 260,000 people to Washington, D.C. to rally against racial injustice. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was the last speaker of the day with the statue of Abraham Lincoln behind him; on #ThisDayInHistory in 1963, Dr. King began his “I Have a Dream” speech. history.com/topics/black-h…

Love this sort of thing, Robert the Bruce on a WW1 recruitment poster 1914: 'I appeal to the men of Scotland... king and country need them' When popular Scottish nationalism embraced official Britishness & was seemingly regarded as a support rather than a threat to the state!

'Before execution, we were forced to take off our clothes. One of the soldiers tied our hands behind our backs. At that moment I, a 17 year old boy, realised it was the end.' Nedžad Avdić was shot during the genocide in #Srebrenica, when he was just 17. Read his life story:

A flypast has honoured the bravery of Britain’s last surviving Victoria Cross holder in Aberdeen. A Catalina flew over where 104-year-old John Cruickshank lives. He was awarded the VC, 80 years ago today for his part in sinking a German submarine in 1944. More on @BBCScotlandNews

It's t-minus 14 days to the History exam! Remember, little and often is best. Try to work through your 30 day challenge sheets everyday - here's today's task for 4C Nationals! 📖 Remember, testing yourself is as much about seeing what you DO know as it is about what you don't 👍
