Moana hired a full team of Polynesian consultants to police everything from tattoos to how the heroine addresses her elders. The Odyssey cast zero Greek or Mediterranean actors in a story that belongs to Greece. One culture got a "Cultural Trust". The other got mocked for asking. Why is Hollywood like this?

What I find interesting in this piece is that the author makes a moral argument against the politics of Little House on the Prairie while simultaneously admitting she felt a sadistic level of ‘justice’ in a character going blind because she is pretty.

I saw Dead Calm at the drive-in in 1989. That's the movie that made Nicole Kidman a star, and she was great, but Sam Neill is who landed on my radar. He was superb and totally believable as an everyday man desperate to save his wife, who had to think his way out of an impossible situation. Phillip Noyce directs (this also launched him in the U.S.) and Billy Zane plays the antagonist. It's a true gem if you haven't seen it.

One thing about the whole “how dare Christopher Nolan violate the sacred Greek history of the Trojan war” is that Britain’s mythological history begins with it being founded by a Trojan prince so basically the Brits can riff on it however they want

My favorite ODYSSEY backlash talking point is “Nolan has disrespected the Greeks” because literally no one in America actually cares about this including the people saying it.

Mick Jagger Says It’s Not His Job to Lecture Rolling Stones’ Fans on Politics NYT: “Bruce Springsteen clearly sees his job as engaging in a meaningful back and forth.” MICK JAGGER: “My job in the live music world is for those people that come to have the best time … And you don't want to lecture them.”
