@scdlcaramia @EmpiresPodcast Hahaha yeah. Sure. Laughing. That’s angry. People who try to erase my culture and curse at me lose the privilege of talking to me. All bigotry makes me angry. And I’m doing perfect. It’s. Scientific impossibility to do better than that.

Did they show the Polynesian slave cast? Any of King Kamehameha’s atrocities like throwing people off cliffs and human sacrifice? No. Of course not. Because they somehow get cast in the best light possible. Which is fine. Greeks ask just for a fraction of that respect. But we’re not allowed to have “elders” and “tradition” and ancestral land — I’m looking at you, Constantinople!
Fandom Pulse@fandompulse

Moana hired a full team of Polynesian consultants to police everything from tattoos to how the heroine addresses her elders. The Odyssey cast zero Greek or Mediterranean actors in a story that belongs to Greece. One culture got a "Cultural Trust". The other got mocked for asking. Why is Hollywood like this?

@HistoryDean you kept me laughing out loud at the latest episode of DerekHunter show... Dr Strangelove and Cary Grant references were bonuses. (I listen at 1.5 speed, so it's extra RobinWilliamsy)

@EmpiresPodcast You shut up, you profane little worm. The Turks spent 500 years telling Greek people to shut up, and they killed us for resisting. The Nazis did the same. You think you’re going to silence us with a TWEET and some naughty words? Bwahahahhahsha!

@awstar11 Eddie Murphy had a bit about this. He started honking his arm at somebody whose bumper sticker said honk if you love Jesus. The guy jumped down and started screaming.

But... But... But... I've made the point here and on the radio multiple times. You're trying to change the topic because you've lost and you don't want to argue over THIS specific film, which is not being done with any respect at all. You're not Greek. You wouldn't understand, don't understand, and you're wrong. So maybe have the guts to put your real name on your account and interact like a human being. Until you do, you've lost the privilege of talking to me.

@HistoryDean Then why aren't you raging against Virgil and the Aeniad, who turned the story on its head for Rome. Why aren't you raging against James Joyce and Ulysses who totally changed it and cast Irish? Why aren't you raging against the movie Troy, cast it with Germans and Englishmen?

No, it’s Greek. It’s in Greek, written by a Greek, and preserved by Greeks. You don’t get to say what’s “universal,” anonymous bot account.

Please tell me what makes YOU the decider over who owns what mythology? Homer's stories are central to the Greek identity. The fact that the British have stolen it like the did the Elgin Marbles and countless other artifacts from native people doesn't make it theirs.
Ben Dreyfuss@bendreyfuss

One thing about the whole “how dare Christopher Nolan violate the sacred Greek history of the Trojan war” is that Britain’s mythological history begins with it being founded by a Trojan prince so basically the Brits can riff on it however they want

Who are you to judge people's outrage as legitimate or not? Greeks suffered 400 years of occupation and slavery at the hands of the Turks. Greeks taught their language and stories in secret, in caves, at risk of death. One hundred years ago, my father's parents survived the genocide. Fifty years ago, the Turks invaded, raped, murdered and destroyed in Northern Cyprus, again attempting to erase the culture as they did in Anatolia. If you can't understand why, with that history, Greeks are protective of their culture, and just asking for some respect, then it's you who need a look in the mirror.
Ben Dreyfuss@bendreyfuss

My favorite ODYSSEY backlash talking point is “Nolan has disrespected the Greeks” because literally no one in America actually cares about this including the people saying it.

I’m not wrong. It’s a story that is central to a single national identity. It doesn’t belong to everybody in the sense you are saying. You don’t get to say what belongs to the whole world. Who the hell are you? Some anonymous account. Greek people had to fight for 400 years against Turkish genocide and attempt to rate their culture. If you can’t understand why that would leave people very protective of their culture, that’s your problem. Either respect all cultures or don’t respect any cultures. They’re worried about cartoons being voiced by certain ethnic groups, John Leguizamo bitches that only the descendants of Spanish genocidal colonizers can play Spanish characters, but he goes and plays a Greek. These are your rules, not mine. Live by them.

@HistoryDean Yes, I do get to say it, because it's true, and you're wrong, and humans have a God given-right to say what's true. Myths were passed from culture to culture, sumerians to babylonians to egyptians to greeks to romans, and they were done so because they contained universal truths.

Fox will put contributors in to talk about anything because they’re on the payroll. They don’t even say they’re contributors most of the time now, which was required when I was there after the launch in 1996. They don’t wanna put out actual guest because they’re hard to book and you can’t control what they say. So you’ll put on a teen swimmer to talk about literally anything. Or sports blogger who wouldn’t know the constitution from IKEA assembly instructions.

Uhhh, after lecturing everyone on politics for over 40 years, when exactly is Bruce going to take the back or forth from anyone? He’s never had a dialogue. He’s only ever had a monologue with a captive audience. Do we just show up at his massive horse farm with the high walls in Colts neck among all the millionaires and multi millionaires and billionaires to chat? I suppose he’ll just let us inside because he hates border restrictions. Is that how it works?
Chief Nerd@TheChiefNerd

Mick Jagger Says It’s Not His Job to Lecture Rolling Stones’ Fans on Politics NYT: “Bruce Springsteen clearly sees his job as engaging in a meaningful back and forth.” MICK JAGGER: “My job in the live music world is for those people that come to have the best time … And you don't want to lecture them.”

@realjonlovitz I’m not sure who’s writing that now but it’s come to pass. I wrote about their platform some weeks ago in the @newyorksun. These proposals and more — adding multiple representatives to each House district — are in a press release and on their website. nysun.com/article/todays…

If this is true, this is beyond bad. No more balance of power. And it takes away the vote. "As many of its candidates notch electoral wins nationwide, the pre-eminent socialist political group in the U.S., the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), plans to roll out an updated platform that includes eliminating the Senate and replacing the president and the Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by Congress."

Here’s a nice little video for those who want to mock people of Greek heritage for firing back at Nolan for stripping The Odyssey of Greeks. Four hundred years of slavery and the Turks trying to erase Greek culture. Can people not see why such a history would leave a people defensive of their culture being stolen by outsiders? instagram.com/reel/DaV6APeII…
