Week 3 of lab was jam packed with visits to and from @NAICCO1975, the Great Circle Mound (including a talk with Dr. John Low), Great Council State Park/Fort Ancient, and Far East Commissioner Glen Tuomaala, with @DeondreSmiles to engage with Native scholars and sites!

Bonus week! This year's cohort, funded by @MellonFdn, had a unique opportunity to take students to the New England region (MA/RI) to continue research about topics such as Black petitions and Indigenous women’s voting debates and experience the Mashpee Wampanoag Powwow in July.

For week 3 students worked with @DeondreSmiles to conduct research into the perception of Black neighborhoods in Columbus. Students discussed topics such as redlining/white flight and its impact on the development and disenfranchisement of urban cities and minority populations.

Week 2! Supported by @MellonFdn, students continued research about early Indigenous and Black communities in NW Ohio at Ohio State before heading to Celina, OH for 4 days to conduct archival research at historic sites/archives such as the Garst Museum and the Temple of Rumley.

Topics about African American rights sometimes came up at the Ohio Constitutional Convention (1850-51). They were often voted down or tabled. The rational that was often used was to stop African Americans from coming to Ohio, or to remove the ones already here @HistoryPraxis
