History at Fettes

A fantastic History Society this evening celebrating some of history’s greatest women. Winners were Rory B who presented on Dr.Sally Ride and Alia and Ella who took on the case for Joan of Arc. #internationalwomensday

A great turnout at the History Society today to hear Geordie M’s presentation on the Jacobite Rebellion

@Fettes_College It was a privilege for our students to be invited to this event. They heard testimonies from relatives of Holocaust survivors and victims. The message they took away seem even more important in the context of increasing racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia & xenophobia globally.

A driech old night but a warm Historical Society welcome to Professor Julian Goodare, who gave a fascinating talk about the witch hunts of the 16th century, with particular reference to Scotland.

Quick visit to Gdynia to pay tribute to Old Fettesian Sir Tommy Macpherson, who escaped from a PoW camp to Sweden via this port during the Second World War

A powerful and important visit this morning to the former concentration camp at Stutthof.

Early morning at the war memorial can only mean a history trip. Off for educational times in Gdansk.

Today’s historical society continued with the Black History Month theme with Mr Du Vivier discussing the importance of music as a form of protest. He drew on 3 examples: ‘strange fruit’, ‘we shall overcome’ and ‘Black’.

In the first of our History Society Lunchtime Lecture series honouring Black History Month, we explored the legacy of the tragic murder of Stephen Lawrence in April 1993. #BlackHistoryMonth2023

A fantastic History Society lunchtime lecture from Mr Armstrong on the Battle of Gettysburg. This is a period we don’t usually cover in our curriculum so was great to hear about the significance of the battle and how the divisions that caused the war still resonate today.

Lower Sixth History Society members are supporting Fourth Form with their History revision ahead of their exam tomorrow morning

Upper Sixth A levels students organised their own Cold War revision session in Ac Pri this afternoon. They were each responsible for delivering/re-teaching a unit of the course. Great work all 👏🏼
