Hobart Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire on 14th Street between Garfield and Illinois. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully involved garage fire with immediate exposure to the nearby residence. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Today, the Hobart Fire Department joined forces with multiple fire departments, organizations, and future Public Safety Educators to canvas a subdivision in the town of Merrillville, where recent house fire fatalities highlighted the critical need for working smoke detectors.
