@DFersin @ThievesLandingg @TrueSlazac You’re not a serious person with serious well thought out positions, no one wants to engage with you because you’re a genuine moron dude. You still believe in 19th century eugenics and anthropology why would anyone talk to a guy who is so disconnected from reality?

@godspeedend @AidanZuI Passed the vibe check? It’s an intentionally funny movie, there are scenes that are supposed to be funny, not the ending, but there are definitely moments which are supposed to be funny. You guys act like laughing at the funny things that happen in this movie is a moral failure

@AidanZuI Jesus, seeing this makes me grateful for the audience I watched it with. You could hear a pin drop during the credits cause nobody was expecting that ending. Sure there was a few moments where people nervously laughed but apart from that everyone passed that vibe check.

They keep posting this shit but the Owen Wilson Obama biopic would make three billion dollars. It would be my favourite movie of all time.

@karasoth @miririnmiri Then read the ones you own. Translations often have many differences, translators disagree often, it does not make them evil. Wilson’s translation is well regarded by scholars, historians, and classics professors and I quite frankly value their opinions more than a random guy.

@karasoth @miririnmiri You also are presuming mal intent where I doubt there was any. It is truly a scholarly translation which is very well regarded, though I know you disagree with that because of your pre existing views about what the text ought to be and your politics.

@karasoth @miririnmiri I don’t know man, there are actual bad people and actual bad things that happen in the world. You’re just being really dramatic about a translation you disagree with and acting as if it’s a real moral failure, you can always read other translations if you prefer.

@karasoth @miririnmiri What are you, 5 years old? “Evil.” Murder is evil, rape is evil, a translation you disagree with is nothing. You can pick up a different translation of the odyssey if you wanted to, get over it man.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders Further, if you believe violence is baked into the American psyche and built into our bones than this conversation is done, it’s a cop out answer which is not provable or disprovable and takes all agency away from our policies.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders So I don’t see how harsher sentencing fixes mass shootings when the rate of mass shootings climbed even as sentencing practices got generally harsher throughout the US.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders Then why do countries with stricter gun control laws experience far less mass casualty events. By your logic they would still be done, and would do the same damage.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders Like a mass shooting is just not as practical in a world with only muskets, this is absolutely obvious. I think you would have to agree that mass murder would both be far less deadly and less common in a world with only muskets.

Actually I think the argument was that since the firearm has evolved so too should our laws around it. It was then implied that a mass shooting was impossible in the 18th century because if someone walked into an office building to do one, they would be unable to do so because of the long reloading time. It's a false framing, used to drive the argument of gun control. Mass murder in the 18th century did not involve lone gunmen walking into office buildings. It involved groups of people. But they were still mass murders. The comparison is only silly when you change some variables (the weapon used) and hold other variables (lone shooters) constant.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders The comparison is silly because the Boston Massacre killed 5 people, which is clearly incomparable to modern day mass shootings which make headlines. I don’t think OP is claiming that mass murder is impossible (I wasn’t), just that it pales in comparison and is more impractical.

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders I think this is especially exemplified by the fact that the only thing you could think of to demonstrate the damage of a mass shooting in the 1700’s was the Boston massacre, which only killed 5 people and was more comparable in context to the Kent State Massacre than to Columbine

@VeryBannable @d_h_sanders No one was arguing that you couldn’t kill people with muskets or that murder would be solved by banning guns, just that a musket mass shooting is impractical. The difference in damage done between a “mass”shooting in the 1700’s and a mass shooting today makes the comparison silly
