Thread: Masks and NPIs. This thread reviews information published from Oct 2019 - Dec 2020. The point is to see what was known/believed before & after discovery of COV2. We'll start with research on epidemic/pandemic influenza (flu) from Oct of 2019. Aerosols vs. droplets. /1

@Hold2LLC @SuperGrok It kinda feels like we've already hit the peak of what the current "AI" is capable of doing. It's not really thinking, it's just putting words in a certain order that it has determined fits a pattern. Maybe eventually someone will figure out a new way to do it, but until then...

@SuperGrok I mean... really? This is as far as AI has evolved? Incessantly gives the wrong answers on basic calculations. Even when it shows itself its own mistake, it doesn't believe it and sticks to the original wrong "verified result." It then takes me 5 more messages to break it loose, but then on the very next request it does it again and acts like it has no idea we ever had the discussion.

Is this true for all LLMs? Is there a version of any LLM where this type of idiocy doesn't continually happen? I get this all the time with SuperGrok, ChatGPT (paid), and GitHub CoPilot (all agents) TLDR of the screenshot is: - I ask a question related to the immediately-preceding exchange (most recent 4-5 messages) - @SuperGrok gives the wrong answer by 1 message - I tell it that's the wrong answer - It bakes the wrong answer into every reply no matter how much I scream until I tell it to literally print the conversation, after which it goes, "Oh, oops, you're right." - Its excuse is "persisted reasoning"

@AlexZwitter2 I concur with and have learned that the hard way. What I am frustrated with here is that it can't recall facts from the recent conversation history...or rather, it doesn't bother to actually check the history before answering and then bakes in that wrong answer permanently.

LLM's (I've used Grok & ChatGPT) are tools best used as enhanced search engines Their conclusions should be taken w/ a grain of salt. Not only have they been programed by humans w/ agendas more typical of perpetuating indoctrination similar to govt controlled "education" & legacy media, their conclusions are based the info gathered from sources previously & continually indoctrinated by the same. Indoctrination is accumulative - x.com/AlexZwitter2/s… If you ask them very specific questions, in a very clear manner, they can be very powerful search engines, that give accurate answers. The accuracy is only as clear as your questions and the info available online They will refine their answers based on how you refine/further specify your questions. But, when the subject can be of significant controversy - politics, religion, etc. - they will shut you down & stick to the narrative Here is an example - x.com/AlexZwitter2/s…

@Hold2LLC I was trying to get Gemini to edit a cartoon for my wife. I had to keep pasting old versions back into the prompt because once it fucked up, it carried the fuckup no matter what. One time it replaced a window view that was just a nice tree with the palace of fucking Versailles

@VotesForLizards Yes, when asking @SuperGrok to explain why, it said, "I did not 'review the history to be sure' in the way a human would; I generated claims based on a corrupted internal summary that persisted across turns." It also claimed this is a well-known limitation of LLMs.

@Hold2LLC I've found they don't take correction or direct skepticism very well. It's like once the neural network has produced a result the tokens get locked in. The other thing I find annoying is repeating an answer to something I asked though every following response. Seems related.

@ChauFITOfficial @wrb7271 @DrNeilStone C19-associated deaths increased at a similar pace after mass vaccination. IFR and CFR likely decreased, per capita deaths increased dramatically in countries that had fewer cases before vaccine availability. Here are some grouped examples of both types of countries.

@Hold2LLC @wrb7271 @DrNeilStone ... that the deaths went down post mass vaccination. *That* is the data that tells scientists and doctors around the world that the vaccine saved lives. And your next shocking revelation: young, relatively healthy ppl with few or no comorbidities are not dying at a high rate (2)

@ChauFITOfficial @wrb7271 @DrNeilStone I have all those charted, too. Bill’s claim was wrong, and many people still hold his misconception as true. One major issue with comparing Vax vs. Unvax rates is the Unvax denominator is never known. The discrepancy between UKHSA and ONS was ~6 million.

@Hold2LLC @wrb7271 @DrNeilStone So what you're saying is that people who are in poor health and are more susceptible to disease are dying from disease? *gasp* shocking! Here's the stats you rly need to look up.... C19 deaths within that same demographic before and after mass vaccination. You *will* see (1)

@Hold2LLC @wrb7271 @DrNeilStone ... from C19? *gasp* I'm amazed.... how about this.... compare C19 deaths by percentage (not raw number) of vaccinated from 18-55 years against unvaccinate.... and see who has the higher percentage.... not raw number... *percentage* (3)

@wrb7271 @DrNeilStone This is a common misconception. The vast majority of COVID deaths were and are vaccinated. That’s because most deaths are elderly, and the vast majority of elderly are vaccinated. A small percentage of COVID deaths are unvaccinated, and that % decreased over time.

I think you’re missing a point. Population shifts aren't just about losing electoral votes in blue states—they're also about gaining voters in red states. As Democratic voters move, they bring their values with them. Today's red state gains could lay the foundation for tomorrow's blue wave. Think about it.

@DrClaytonForre1 @kalezelden Roll Tide! I’m from Alabama but was shocked to see how many kids here on Long Island (NY) are going to UA. It’s awesome to see. My son also was recruited actively and offered scholarship money without even applying for it. He’s deciding which southern school to attend.

I've taught at a New England prep school for nearly 20 years. Families have been laser focused on top tier colleges, most of which are up here. Except for a very few exceptional candidates, this has changed. Dramatically. There is another "great migration" happening, as a steady flow of middle and upper middle-class children of the meritocratic class have decided to go to college in the spirit of normalcy. 10 years ago a kid or two went south. Maybe Now many are are headed down to the football part of the country. It'll be interesting to see how this winds up in a decade. These kids are not in a mood to tolerate NE weirdness anymore, especially since they've figured out that they are not wanted. They seem to want something normal.
