During the Congress, key milestones were achieved: our ExCo was approved, office-bearers were elected, and HNI’s 1st Declaration was adopted. It was a space of exchange, solidarity, and commitment to advancing rights, recognition, and dignity for home-based workers worldwide.

Today we celebrate the anniversary of our 2nd Congress, held in 2023 — a historic moment that brought together home-based worker leaders from across regions to strengthen our collective voice and shape our shared future.

12 years ago, the Rana Plaza disaster took the lives of over 1,100 garment workers. We remember the victims and stand in solidarity with their families demanding safety, rights, and mandatory human rights legislation to prevent similar tragedies from happening again. ✊🏾

Before they reach the market, mini soapstone sculptures, shoes, bags, garments, and countless handmade crafts begin their production inside the homes of millions of home-based workers.

Yet this critical work remains unpaid, invisible and unsupported. It's time to value all forms of work. Child care is care work. Care work is real work. ✊🏽👶🏻 #CareEconomy #DecentWorkForAll #SolidarityInDiversity

🧒🏽🏡 For many home-based workers, #ChildCare is part of their daily unpaid care work. While they stitch, weave, craft, or assemble goods from their homes, they are also full-time caregivers, balancing production with the responsibility of raising the next generation.
