As I was saying, Marek is just spewing shit about things he doesn’t know anything about. The Sharks, of course, own the Oilers’ 2026 first rounder, which has no bearing on 2026 RFA offer sheet compensation.
The Mug NHL@TheMugNHL

Jeff Marek on The Sheet today, talked about a “max chaos move” the Edmonton Oilers could pull off if they can get their first round pick back from San Jose - offer sheet Pavel Dorofeyev. $11.9 million x 2 years - which would cost two firsts, a second and a third. @JeffMarek

Marek’s hypothetical betrays a serious lack of familiarity with weat coast teams/players. Nurse is one of the most expensive defensemen in the league, and is terrible. Graf is already a key piece of the Sharks young core. This trade makes no sense.
The Mug NHL@TheMugNHL

Jeff Marek hints that the San Jose Sharks have a ton of young forwards, and he wonders if there’s a trade to be made sending one of those young forwards to Edmonton in exchange for Darnell Nurse. He specifically name-dropped Collin Graf. H/T @DailyFaceoff

There were a lot of games this year I did not enjoy watching Dickinson because he looked terrible. But, and this is important, it doesn’t matter what the fans want. Who gives a shit? GMs certainly don’t. They’ll draft and play whoever they think makes the team better.

people couldn’t even handle Dickinson making rookie mistakes this past season even with the development he got from playing juniors … what makes u think a dman we draft this year would be any different?

@KyleDemetrius Yes and I think it’s a better bet that their 19 and 20 year old forwards will develop into that than that a top pairing defenseman will magically materialize. If Smith and Misa can’t provide that secondary scoring eventually, then what makes you think Stenberg will?

@Homersampson The sharks also badly need secondary scoring outside of Mack. The Sharks record without him getting a point is abysmal. The D is a glaring hole but the offence isn’t anywhere close to complete

Let’s say Stenberg becomes a 1L wing, and whichever D they would pick becomes a 1/2D. How much better would Stenberg need to be for the marginal value of picking the D to be lower than the wing? BPA is great, but if they both end up top of the lineup, the Sharks need the D.

There are, at most, 32 1D in the league (probably fewer “true” 1D in practice). How many would you expect to have been drafted in the last 10 years? What is the hit rate on true 1C in the top 10 from the last 10 years?
HS Hockey@htrickkane9

Notable defenceman outside T10 - Adam Fox - Jakob Chychrun - Charlie McAvoy - Filip Hronek - Evan Bouchard - Thomas Harley - Jackson LaCombe - Lane Hutson 16 number one defenceman have been drafted since 2016, 8 of them outside the top-ten.
