This attitude "I don't care about you or your health" is actually the biggest upshot of the covid pandemic. We were given outright permission for it to be socially acceptable to not care about anyone or anything.

Past Andes virus outbreaks show that virions can be aerosolized by speech. Saying “hello” within 1–2 meters without physical contact was enough for human-to-human spread. For human-transmissible viruses, speech-range aerosol spread should be seen as the norm, not the exception.

By the time authorities admitted Covid was airborne, millions of people had already died. The Andes strain of Hantavirus spreads person to person. Everyone on the boat should have been quarantined. You don’t “wait & see” with a virus that has a 40% fatality rate.

Many people WANT Public Health to just do their damn jobs, and not get lazy when dealing with a low-probability but high-consequence event such as a hantavirus pandemic. It would be helpful if ID experts focused on holding PH accountable, instead of being complicit like this.
