@shavnyuy I love Kerala's Terracotta tile roofs style at varying slopes. I witnessed some beautiful architecture when I was there a few years ago and it all reflects the climate, the people and the land in great harmony. It is, as they say, God's country.

I said Kerala has some of the best & also most beautifully documented residential architecture. Here is Friday’s proof. Aangan. Kerala, India. Designed by Vriksha Architects. Terracotta tile roof at varying slopes. Exposed red brick. Local Bangalore stone. Cobblestone entrance laid in a circular pattern. The central courtyard designed around an existing jackfruit tree, the tree was there first and the house was built around it. Deep verandahs that combine the garden and the entrance. A formal living area designed as an outdoor pavilion so neighbours and family can gather. Every window and opening positioned to pull Kerala’s natural ventilation through the house. Nothing fights the climate. Everything works with it. This is not a rich man’s experiment. This is a documented, repeatable architectural tradition that Kerala has refined for decades; brick, timber, terracotta, stone, courtyard, verandah. The same materials and the same logic that could build a beautiful home anywhere in tropical Africa. The knowledge exists. The question is when we start using it. Bengaluru is one of the most densely built cities in India. This family refused to let that be an excuse. The facade curves and folds to carve a garden into the building itself. Not on the roof. Not in the backyard. Suspended inside the facade at every level, filtering air, pulling light deep into the interior, cooling the microclimate floor by floor. The terracotta skin is not decoration. It references the earth tones of South Indian vernacular architecture while managing heat gain on a west-facing urban plot. 6,900 square feet. A family that wanted greenery and openness in a city that offers neither easily. The building gave them both without leaving the street. 📍 Bengaluru, India 🏛 Cadence Architects 📷 Atik Bheda

time and time again you'll be reminded by the universe that the only meaningful needle moving metric on "saving the world" is the expansion and deepening of your consciousness, of your connection with god.

being in the hospital emergency room makes me want to triple down on my sadhana / spirtual practice. the anguish of a lifetime spent vacillating between avoiding pain and chasing pleasure becomes so painfully obvious on an old person's face, facing death. a lifetime of identifying with the mind-body. a prison without walls.
