Today, I welcomed the President of the North Eastern State of Somalia, H.E. Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye, and his delegation to @MoPIED_Somalia. Our discussions focused on strengthening intergovernmental development cooperation, advancing the implementation of Somalia’s #NTP2025_2029, and accelerating priority development projects that directly benefit communities across the North Eastern State. The delegation also toured the Barwaaqo Project and various Ministry departments, where they received briefings on ongoing resilience, water, environmental restoration, and institutional development initiatives. I appreciate President Firdhiye and his delegation for their visit and reaffirm our commitment to strengthening coordinated and inclusive development efforts across Somalia.

I was pleased today to meet with Ambassador @ItalyinSomalia, H.E. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, and his delegation to discuss strengthening Somalia–Italy cooperation. Our discussions focused on aligning Italy’s support with Somalia’s #NTP2025_2029, strengthening coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of development programs, and expanding investment cooperation to encourage Italian companies to explore Somalia’s growing investment opportunities. Somalia remains committed to strengthening strategic partnerships that advance sustainable development, economic growth, and investment.

Our discussions underscored the importance of integrating gender considerations into national planning and development processes, while strengthening data systems, enhancing institutional capacity, and reinforcing national ownership. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to deepening cooperation and working collaboratively to deliver meaningful and sustainable outcomes for communities across Somalia.

Today, I officially presided over the handover of the Director General position at the Ministry, where Mr. Abdifatah Abdikadir Farah assumed office from the outgoing Director General, Mr. Mohamed Shire, during a ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu. I wish Mr. Mohamed Shire continued success and a bright future. We worked closely for nearly three years, and I sincerely thank him for his leadership and dedicated service to the Ministry. I also warmly welcome Mr. Abdifatah Abdikadir Farah and am confident that he will build on the strong foundation laid before him and further advance the Ministry’s development priorities.

Presided over the Quarterly National Development Council meeting, emphasizing the acceleration of #NTP2025_2029 implementation, strengthening Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems, and the mobilization of development financing. The meeting included a review of State Transformation Plans and a discussion of drought and humanitarian challenges, food security, and the UN Cooperation Framework (2026–2030). The council reaffirmed the importance of robust federal–state collaboration to ensure accountability and sustainable growth. #Somalia

The arrival of the Turkish deep-sea drilling vessel Çağrı Bey in Mogadishu signals a new era of strategic partnership and shared ambition and reflects growing global confidence in Somalia’s stability, leadership, and long-term vision. As the Federal Government of Somalia, led by President @HassanSMohamud and Prime Minister @HamzaAbdiBarre, we remain committed to responsibly harnessing our natural resources to drive inclusive growth, strengthen energy security, and deliver sustainable prosperity for all Somalis, fully aligned with our National Transformation Plan (#NTP2025_2029). Today, I presided over the signing of a strategic MoU between Hormuud Telecom (@Hormuud) and @giz_gmbh to advance Somalia’s inclusive digital economy. This partnership comes at a critical moment as we implement the #NTP2025_2029, with a clear focus on private sector-led growth, digital transformation, and job creation. It also strengthens our regional integration agenda within the East African Community (EAC). It was a pleasure to meet with Sandra Lattouf (@sandralattouf), @unicefsomalia Country Representative, to discuss how we can work together to achieve our shared development goals and align UNICEF’s Country Programme (2026–2030) with the NTP 2025–2029, especially in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and coordination. We highlighted the importance of increasing efforts to address the ongoing food and nutrition crisis to support vulnerable communities, especially women and children. We also discussed strengthening institutional capacity and coordination to make our response more effective. With decreasing global support, we agreed on the need to boost joint advocacy and mobilize resources to protect our development progress. Our partnership with @unicefsomalia is crucial to achieving integrated humanitarian, resilience, and development outcomes for the Somali people.
