@cinansnickem @biggieU_U Yeah i think its very similar to elden ring. Both are mixed bags with extreme highs and lows, both probably an 8/10 imo DS1 is peak though the world design alone puts it above everything else

@HooLeeShet33 @biggieU_U Yeah, as much as i complain about it, i don't really hate DS2. It's imo a lot better than DS1 and on par with base Elden Ring for me Even if it has a lot of really bad ideas, it also has Fume Knight, so it's hard to dismiss it outright

@bloody_poptart @biggieU_U Yes i am whats the difference? If im gonna farm a boss for hundreds of thousands of souls i might as well just cheat in the hundreds of thousands of souls. Funnily enough the games are balanced around not farming souls at all because its not fun

@cinansnickem @biggieU_U Yeah such is the nature of Dark Souls II in my opinion. Theres a lot of great stuff in the game, and where theres bad stuff, more often than not there was a genuinely interesting idea behind it. Thats why i cant hate on the game.

@HooLeeShet33 @biggieU_U I mean, if it was for a much easier boss like Covetous Demon, it would be a really cool concept. A gauntlet of enemies that ask you to 1v1 and if you don't the entire area swarms you? That sounds cool! But then they put it before one of the worst bosses in the game

@HooLeeShet33 @biggieU_U For me, i don't know what happened, but the dragon kept spamming the Rain of Fire move, which to me was nearly undodgeable, to the point where a friend who was watching me told me my game might be cursed I couldn't beat the fight until i got the broken anti-backstab ring

@cinansnickem @biggieU_U Darklurker's runback is only bad because it costs humanity to enter the area (this is a genuinely bad mechanic). I wasnt really counting it since we were discussing runbacks in terms of enemy placements.

@cinansnickem @biggieU_U Personally speaking i never had an issue with it, its one run up to open all the doors and speak to the dragon, and then after that just manage your stamina bar and its easy not to get hit at all. Also yes its still optional even though it makes your life more convenient

@bloody_poptart @biggieU_U Yeah the goal of the mechanic is dissuade casual players from trying to farm regular enemies because it breaks the intended balance of the areas. Speedrunners are not casual players lol and this mechanic wasnt intended to affect them. Speedrunning is all about breaking the game.

@cinansnickem @biggieU_U I will agree the runback in dragon aerie is actually pretty terrible, but its also extremely easy to run past the enemies and is an entirely optional fight I'd say its actually pretty similar to Oceiros in DS3, an optional boss with loads of tough enemies that everyone runs past

I remember being bewildered that people complain about the amount of enemies in DS2 because the outside rooftops area of the Cathedral is genuinely horrific

@Buttberrypie @biggieU_U i think its a good thing that extensive farming comes with a cost, the game isnt fun or balanced if i min-max enemy drops imagine if the black knight in darkroot basin respawned like a regular enemy, everyone would farm it for the halberd and not use any other weapons
