From the SI 96-97 NBA Preview, LA w/Shaq & rookie Kobe: -Tag line "you gotta love the Lakers' chutzpah" -They had a stormy 95-96 season but was oozing w/talent (Van Exel, Eddie Jones) -Coach Harris compared rookie Kobe to MJ & Penny -LA went 56-26 but were beat 4-1 by UTA

Bonus Hollander POTD Slick Watts. Undrafted PG from Xavier LA made SEA in 73 as hustler. Led NBA w/8.1 apg & 3.2 spg in 75-76. Unique player who wore crooked headbands & shaved his dome before it was a thing. After brief peak, was out of NBA by 79 (age 27). RIP Slick.

Hollander POTD Alvin Robertson. Arkansas G drafted 7th in 84 by SA. Great defender led NBA in spg 3x. A 4x all-star, peaking at 19.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 6.8 apg in 87-88. Declined due to injuries & other issues. Per bio: "the pit bull of NBA guards."

2/12/99, Lakers score only 75 points & lose to MIN. Shaq sat out the game but noted that the team's only shooter was Jacobson:

Random POTD Sam Jacobson. Minnesota SG was drafted 26th in 98 by LAL. Good shooter but barely played for LAL cuz he didn't fit the Triangle per Phil's book below. Waived & played w/GS & MIN thru 01. Played abroad briefly after.

Bonus Hollander POTD Mike Brown. George Washington PF/C was drafted 69th in 85 by CHI. After a year in Italy & 2 in CHI, spent 88-93 in UTA backing up Karl Malone. Peaked at 7.7 ppg in 91-92. Also played w/MIN, PHI & PHO thru 97. Per bio: "he'd be 7-footer if he had a neck."

From the 95-96 SI NBA preview, the final Bullets team: -Picked 3rd in Atlantic w/a ton of fun players like Webber, young Juwan, Muresan, Sheed & Mark Price -WAS tried to sign Barros & Elliott Perry at PG before getting Price who, they thought would make them a playoff team

@HoopsAnalyst This a rare bad take by Hollander. Also said Allen was a senior at UConn when he left after his junior year.

Hollander POTD Ray Allen. UConn star was drafted 5th by MIN & traded to MIL. An incredible shooter/scorer had 21.8+ ppg 8 yrs in a row, peak of 26.4 in 06-07 w/SEA. Traded to BOS in 07-08 & was key to title there and MIA. His shot in 2013 Finals saved LBJ. HOFer.

Risacher was traded after 142 games w/ATL. Since the Lottery was enacted in 85, here are the #1 overall picks who played the fewest games with the team that drafted them:

In 05-06, Gonzaga went 29-4 and Morrison scored 28 ppg. The only other pro was Jeremy Pargo (who didn't play much). JP Batista was solid at C too. They lost a tough Sweet 16 game where Morrison famously collapsed in despair.

Random POTD Adam Morrison. Star SF at Gonzaga was drafted 3rd by CHA in 06. Scored 12 ppg as a rook but was not efficient. Missed 07-08 w/ACL tear. Traded to LAL in 08-09 where he sat on a title team. Waived in 2010 & played briefly abroad. Now, like everyone else, has a pod.
