Player Spotlight with Cordell Hurst Eastern HS, Pekin By Brent Deaner 6’3 200lbs #12 QB, WR, LB Bench 225 squat 390 deadlift 405 GPA-3.14 -What is a moment from last season that stands out to you? Response: A moment that stands out to me the most from last year is when I got my first touchdown of the season against Eastern Greene in a win, and ended up having two touchdowns that game. -How do you describe your style of play? Response: I would say my style of play is just getting my job done as a teammate and as the QB to put my team in a better spot, I definitely like throwing the ball more but this upcoming seasons I definitely look to expand my game. -What was the highlight of the 2025 season? Response : I think the biggest highlight of the season was almost coming back in the Clarksville game after being down early on, I’m definitely looking forward to playing them again this year. -Other than your own, what stadium do you enjoy playing in the most? Response: I would have to say that I enjoy playing in Silver Creek’s stadium the most because of the cool lights and music. -Which road stadium is the toughest to play in? Response: I think Salem’s stadium is the toughest to play in because they are a rivalry team and most of their fans are usually loud and really into the game. -Best advice you have received about playing your positions? Who gave it to you? Response: I think the best advice I’ve got at playing Qb is Coach Williams telling me to just stay calm on the field and trust my teammates to do their job. -What is the best part of being a student athlete at your school? Response: The best part about being a student athlete at my school is that you get recognition. Being in a small school, sports really matters to most of the community and students at the school. -Favorite part of practice? Response: My favorite part of practice is when we get into team offense and bring everything we just went over together and run plays as a team against scout defense. -Has the transfer portal made recruiting tougher for high school players? Response: The transfer portal has definitely made recruiting tougher for high school players because most colleges are looking for more experienced players to fill the spots they need. -Favorite sports movie or show? Response: My favorite sports movie is probably Facing the Giants because it shows what a small team can still achieve when they actually play together and compete at the level they know they can. -If you could sit down with any athlete for an hour, who would it be? Response: If I could sit down with any athlete it would have to be Josh Allen. I would want to know how he made it to the league coming from such a small high school. Player Spotlight Q&A with Zach Terrill Lebanon (IN) HS || Class of 2028 Football DE/OT || Wrestler || Shot & Disc || 6'3" 235 lbs. || 2025 Top Moment 1. One moment that stood out was our win over Danville last season. That is always a hard fought game. Both teams show up ready to work. Describe your style of play 2. When I’m pass rushing I’m fast and technical. On run plays I’m strong and aware. 2025 Season Highlight 3. The highlight of the 2025 football season was our sectional win. That game was something I had my eyes on all season. Favorite road stadium 4. I enjoyed playing at Culver Academy. It’s on a lake and the overall vibe is good. Toughest road stadium 5. Danville has an intense crowd, but not as intense as Tiger Nation. Best positional advice 6. A useful piece of advice I received was from my Uncle when he told me to aim for the V of the neck on run plays. All Star invite 7. Playing in the North vs South All-Star game would mean a lot to me. I would get to compete with and against some of the best in the state. Best thing about your school 8. The best part of being a student athlete is playing sports I love with my friends and representing our school. Favorite part of practice 9. My favorite part of practice are individuals (Indy) because that’s when you get to fine tune your skills. Has transfer portal impacted recruiting? 10. The transfer portal has made recruiting a little tougher for high school players. Programs can bring in bigger and experienced players who can start immediately. There can be less of a focus on developing younger players. But there are still a lot of opportunities. We just need to work hard for those opportunities. Favorite sports movie 11. Moneyball is my favorite sports movie because I liked it when the team started to click and work together. It was also fun watching the business side of baseball. Favorite athlete 12. I would like to sit down with Shaquille O’Neal because he’s funny and it seems like he would be a good guy. He’s done a lot of different things and probably has great stories.
