Dr. Benjamin Krause, associate professor of music, has been named the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Thomas Ediger Distinguished Composer of the Year.
Recognized at the 2026 MTNA National Conference for his composition, "Spaces Real or Imagined," Dr. Krause utilizes musical ekphrasis to translate the visual language of painter Maria Helena Vieira da Silva into a collection of five pieces.
This prestigious honor marks his second time receiving the award, following his first win in 2019.

Nine students from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics represented Hope at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Washington, D.C., the largest gathering of mathematicians on the planet.
Of the eight students who stood before global experts to present their research, four earned prestigious Pi Mu Epsilon Outstanding Research Presentation awards: Wyatt Snyder, Mary Moore, Ava Lowe, and Eli Edwards-Parker.

President Matthew Scogin '02 has been named among West Michigan’s “Notable Leaders in Education” by Crain’s Grand Rapids Business.
President Scogin is recognized for demonstrating innovative solutions to educational problems and promoting inclusive practices, particularly through his leadership in academic excellence and programs like the Hope Forward tuition model.
We also congratulate the three Hope College alums Nick DeKoster ’06, Greg Eding ’93, and J.C. Huizenga ’73 who have also been named to the list.

We're excited to announce the new home for Hope College Economics & Business in downtown Holland!
This $65 million, 74,000-square-foot facility will be situated between the heart of Hope's campus and downtown. The new space will support our largest academic department, which has seen a 60% student increase in the last 15 years and serves over 30% of our student population.
Construction is expected to start this November, and the building is projected to open in fall 2028.

How will you use the power you carry?
Carol Bremer-Bennett, U.S. executive director of World Renew and member of the Navajo Nation, will present "The Power We Carry: Belonging as a Sacred Responsibility" on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 3:30 p.m. in the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
Drawing on Indigenous wisdom, Christian faith, and global experience, Bremer-Bennett will reflect on the deep human need for belonging and harmony, the Navajo concept of "hozho," and how we can use our power to work toward wholeness for all.

The Hope College Sustainability Symposium will address critical challenges in sustainable water resources management on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Keynote speaker Dr. Andrew Gronewold (University of Michigan, Global Center for Climate Change and Transboundary Waters) will examine the implications of changes across global transboundary waters and discuss how a global perspective might improve regional management, including right here in the Laurentian Great Lakes basin.
Research posters prepared by Hope students will be on display before and after the main lecture.
